[Journey] Yet Another Pinterest Journey...

Yeah…another one.

It was long overdue since I’ve been planning this for a long time.

The recent core update hit my website. Search traffic is 50% down (so far). This website has always recovered from previous core updates but I doubt it will recover this one.

This website has a Pinterest account from the previous owner. I’ve not been posting anything on it besides the occasional pin here and there.

I started posting around Feb 25. So far I am seeing moderate growth.

I’ve scheduled and posted approx. 20 articles so far. Each one with 10 to 15 unique pins.

I am using tailwind.

I have another website in the same niche. It has approx 250 hq posts written by an expert in the niche. I purchased this last month. It has about 300 visitors/day but it lacks quality images to use on Pinterest. I am not sure what I will do with this. I might merge it with the main site. Will decide later.

What I have:

• A website approved by MV. It gets 30k visitors per month with the current drop, assuming it doesn’t drop further.
• 90 planned articles to post.
  • Scheduled 20 posts at 5 pins per day.
  • At some point I may re-post old articles with new unique images.
• A 2ndary website in the same niche with 250 articles. This brings the total close to 400 quality articles, written by experts (previous website owners).
• Time to work on it.

What I do not have:

• Pinterest know-how. Although I have a plan and a general idea about what I am going to do, I can’t say I know how pinterest really works.

The plan:

• Build pins for all articles on site that have quality images.
  • Outsource this part because it is boring.
    • I do not use AI to make pins. I create all the pins myself, manually with Canva.
    • All the images are my own, unique and not AI (although it’s tempting)
  • Schedule at least 2 posts/day on Tailwind.
• Develop new pieces of content.
  • Some will be done by me, some by outsourcing.
• Merge the 2nd website at some point to keep posting unique and high quality content?

Overall I do not have a set plan. I will change and adapt as needed.

The goal:

Get this site at $5k/month and flip it to focus on 1 single, big website.
I know this is possible because I’ve seen revenue proof from another person in the same niche.

Their Pinterest account sits at 10m/views/month and they generate 15 to 20k/month.

I was about to give up on pinterest as well but then this happened:

This gave me hope and courage to continue working on it.

The journey:

• Get at 100 visitors/day from Pinterest.
  • I think it’s done. That post above helped me achieve it but I will wait for at least 1 week to check consistency.
• 500 visitors/day from Pinterest
• 1k visitors/day from Pinterest
• 2k visitors/day from Pinterest
• 4k visitors/day from Pinterest. This is where I will consider selling it for a decent offer.

Why am I posting this?

Simple. I need some accountability. Having somewhere to report. This journey thread fits that perfectly.

I will update every time I have something worthy to post.

Congratulations on the courage to start your journey. It already seems like you're having good results already.

By the way, try avoid the use of AI posts on your websites, so ad companies don't stop working with you all of a sudden. Rumor has it that mediavine just suspended 500 sites.

It almost feels nobody is safe from these updates, and sometimes I wonder whether I am not just wasting time with all my experiments, still trying to get the traffic from Google, while others have already switched to other places .

I sometimes check the Pinterest journeys from @korni and @Almostbr0ke , and there's a lot of activity. That's always a good sign. Shows that sometimes is going on, that people try this traffic source because they see other people succeeding with it. Sure, it has its problems and limitations, but so do other traffic sources...

Your approach is a bit different, so I wonder how you'll do. I suggest you not to outsource too much from the start... Practice and fine-tune all the processes yourself before letting others take care of them. Any case, good luck and I'll definitely keep my eye on your journey.

I am using a little help from AI but not copy-paste style. I am glad they're taking action against it. Massive spam provides nothing of value.

Pinterest has some potential

I am outsourcing only tasks that've I've done a dozen times and I know what to expect.

Tasks completed today:

• Finished writing and posted a new article on the site.
• I designed 32 unique pins for it (this is an exception, I usually do 10 to 15)
• Designed 40 pinterest templates to use for outsourcing.
• Hired 4 people on Upwork to conduct a research trial article.

Designing new pins takes me about 1h. This task can be easily outsourced and I am writing down the SOP so I can outsource it to a freelancer.

Posting & formatting the article on the site also takes me a lot of time,1h. This can be outsourced as well.

Observation:

1 week ago I published a high quality, unique post from scratch with high quality images.

This post got indexed almost instantly on Bing and it started getting traffic.

Currently it gets 20 visitors/day from bing/yahoo/duckduckgo:



The same post has more than average impressions on Pinterest but nothing extraordinary.

It also got 40 shares on Pinterest from the organic traffic. That’s about 30% share/save rate.

I don’t have previous numbers to compare against but I think it’s happening due to the high quality images and content.

The case study:

I am going to conduct a case study and see what works and what doesn't.

I will create and post 100 unique articles that have not existed before on the website and Pinterest. Each article will have about 20 unique pins.

50 Type “A” Articles.

50 Type “B” Articles.

So far I have visuals for 10 of Type A articles. I have published and posted 3 of them. 60+ unique pins.

4 Type “B” articles. I have published 3 of them, with one of them bringing the most amount of traffic so far for this journey. 1 will be finished and published soon.

I am also going to test manual pins from the website directly vs tailwind and see if that makes any difference.

Tasks completed today:

• Created and posted a unique article.
• Hired someone on Fiverr to create 15 new templates for Pinterest.
• Edited 32 photos.
• Made 22 pins for the same post and scheduled them.
• Received and reviewed 2 out of 4 researches from the freelancers.
  • One is good, with minor changes required.
  • The other ignored most of the instructions and required more time to edit it. Will not hire her long term.
• Almost finished writing another article. It requires some proofreading and editing.

Tasks for tomorrow:

• Create a detailed SOP about Pinterest pin design on Canva and post to find freelancers.
• Finish the unfinished article from today.
• Edit the visuals, publish content and pins for a new article.
• Schedule pins for existing articles.

Indeed. In addition to that, I am adding value and reducing by using unique and custom image when time to sell comes.

5 k per month is huge? How much is it earning now?

It is not. Top competitors make 3k$/day (Pinterest and search traffic combine) and I know someone who does 15 to 20k$/month from Pinterest traffic alone. I was doing $2k/month average before getting hit.

Today I spend most of the time researching competitors.

I will make a few adjustments on my strategy but overall it will remain the same. Publish unique pins.

• I created and scheduled 23 pins.

Does anyone have or know a tool that can find and delete pins with low to no impressions?

My account has over 8k pins (pinned from previous owner) with majority of them having low to 0 impressions..

Hey guys, time for an update.

Completed tasks:

• Published new 3 Type B articles. Total 6 out of 50
• Published new 1 Type A article. Total 4 out of 50
• Scheduled ~40 pins for 2 existing posts.
• Cleaned up the account a bit. Deleted some old boards with no activity and deleted a lot (100s) of ugly looking pins with 0 impressions. This took me almost a day.
• Got the 15 new templates from Fiverr.
• Got all articles from freelancers. 1 quit, 1 was decent, giving one more chance. One meh, will not rehire and one was good. Just gave him 10 more to research.

The ugly:

I do not think the website will recover from this update. It has been hit in the past and always recovered fast but this time looks different:



So, I am giving up hopes on recovery.

The bad:

*Pinterest algorithm update: All new pins get 0 impressions now. They do not show up in your followers feed as they used to do.
*MV is cracking down on listicles and AI content. I do not have AI content or AI images but I have some listicles on the site. I’ve had them for a year + so I don’t think these are an issue but the fact that they’re cracking down on listicles, doesn’t help nor motivate me to keep writing them.
*Most of the traffic is coming from 5-6 pins ,despite having posted ~ 40 new ideas since Feb 25.


The good:

Impressions and traffic from Pinterest are up:



At the beginning of this month I implemented the current strategy. As you can see impressions and outbound clicks are up. Although, a lot of those impressions are min I can’t help but check my account 15-20 times/day and Pinterest counts them

Traffic on site, from Pinterest is 46% up compared to last week:



40% of the traffic comes from 1 pin. The rest is spread out quite well.

Next,

This week I will try to:

• Publish 3 articles from each category.
• Finish SOPs and have freelancers handle all my pin designs. I am still working on these because I haven’t decided the final designs yet.

What's the niche? Are you also doing link building? Usually, I tend to focus on three things to keep sites up. If you have traffic that's more skewed to one section than another, and you've got a high bounce rate, that's an indicator of not fulfilling search intent.

1) Traffic (CTR manipulation/Ads/actual real search engine traffic)
2) Social Media
3) Link Building
