Should BHW have an AI Detector?

Over the last couple months I have seen a lot of new threads and replies that are obvious ChatGPT/AI replies. The posts after this are usually other members telling the user to stop using ChatGPT which makes me wonder why BHW doesn't have an AI detector?

I don't know about all of you but I come to BHW for discussions with real humans, when I want an answer from ChatGPT I will just use ChatGPT, I don't need that here too.

What do you think?

So true and I agree with all of you. Especially for the AI Text Detector part. I can recognize that bloated AI text miles away.

Exactly, responding with AI doesn’t really help because the users themselves often just use it carelessly to generate content. If they took the time to use it carefully to find answers, it would be much more effective.

If the post is undoubtedly AI and the user has a post history consisting of AI responses.

Just send a quick report in and it gets cleaned up pretty fast + the user gets an infraction which may or may not deter them from doing it.

Absolutely. Like something to flag the post as "Possible AI content" and such. It's becoming quite a problem, yeah.

I've reported some users in the past and the moderator said no rule was broken. So it seems some moderators are cool with it and some are not

I just put one in for an AI response on one of my threads and @Heiko cleaned it up within the hour - but yeah some do get through guess it just depends how many staff are active at the time of report

As per the post you've quoted

We don't have an issue with AI content, what we don't allow is where it breaks our rules.

For example if an AI gave you a great linkbuilding idea that would be a problem? If it gave you a recipe for lardons with an affiliate link then it would be in breach of our TOS and would get a warning for spam.

Don't fear AI - do despair at poorly used AI.



To clarify, and as per my above. Where the response makes no sense, the content will be removed, and the account will be warned where it breaks one of our rules. We don't currently have a rule against the use of AI for good reason, when used correctly it can be insightful.

Our amazing moderation team allocates warnings against breaches of our TOS, whether by artificial or actual intelligence. If you stay within our terms, then the content posted is fine as long as the I (intelligence) is there. But if the content posted is against our TOS or just plain dumb, then it will be removed, and the account warned or, in some cases, banned.

All AI's have fingerprints. An option could be checking the reply and scoring it, if it's over 70 then have a possible AI badge on the post

The forum isn't against AI content but abuse of AI content. At least to the best of my knowledge.

Also, the moderators do take care of such low qualify AI content, sometimes I don't see accounts posting such anymore because they usually get taken care of.

It would be different if the people that copy and paste from AI's say 'This is from ChatGPT:' but they don't, they pretend that they came up with the reply to increase their post count.

The forum says they aren't against AI content but if you asked the users here I think most people would be for getting rid of it. We all know how to use ChatGPT

It's easier said than done. Instead of treating it like a taboo, why not embrace it when it's actually helpful? It's like accepting help from someone you’re not fond of, you might not love the source, but a fresh perspective is always welcome!
