If it makes you feel any better Valentines day is not what it seems. If you get a date just tell her not to celebrate Valentines day which started as the Roman festival of Lupercia.
To begin the festival, members of the Luperci, an order of Roman Priests, would gather at a sacred cave. The Priests would then sacrifice a goat, for fertility, and a dog, for purification.

These two animals are highly symbolic to the true meaning of this date and month. We will see the significance of the dog in relationship to a trinity of the sun god, mother goddess, and the king, or god of agriculture. For example, the god of agriculture in Egypt is Osiris. He is associated with the constellation Orion and Canis Major – Orion’s dog. We will also see the significance of the goat and the goat-head, represented symbolically by the pentagram, associated with the pattern of the planet Venus, and an apple, the sign of wisdom, which is also associated with the serpent.

Once the Priests sacrificed the animals they, then, sliced the goat’s hide into strips, dipped them in the sacrificial blood, and took to the streets, gently slapping both women and fields of crops with the goat hide strips.

Honestly, I'm so shocked that most/all of these holidays are around full moons and eclipses. Usually not exact date, but +/- couple days. There was poya day on 12th this month (full moon). Every fuckin time we have european holidays buddhists have poya (but again, not exact date, usually +/- couple days before or after).
