How could consumers in the early days of exchanges protect themselves if hackers or scammers stole their paypal account once they had bought bitcoin via paypal?

Do you have a specific reason for creating multiple posts about how things were fifteen years ago on Crypto? Just curiousity from my side
Because i can figure out if by waiting until 2012 i made a smarter move than by investing in 2010 with paypal scams, theft and all...

If you lost your PayPal, there was a chance to get your account back with PayPal’s fraud team, but not easy.

Stealing paypal account would not have been easy ever. How many such incidents have you heard ? They spend a lot of money to keep their platform safe and secure.

What if the attacker has already emptied the account by then ?

In the early days of Bitcoin exchanges, consumers could protect themselves from PayPal-related hacks or scams by enabling 2FA, using strong passwords, and avoiding direct PayPal-to-Bitcoin transactions due to chargeback risks. Using reputable exchanges, secure wallets, and monitoring accounts for suspicious activity were also essential.

But wouldnt direct paypal to bitcoin transaction be the only way to buy bitcoin directly from an exchange?
