do americans really care about world cup?

Its only a growing sport for 2 reasons, first its dirt cheap to play, no equipment, no training, no special field, etc and 2nd, because they have dosed it with politics, controversy and national pride so its become more cult than anything.

Half the soccer playing nations are corrupt 3rd world counties so they have little to be proud of.

Congratulations, you've just won an Arrogant American of the year award !!! I guess you have something to be proud with now

what do you mean by that? Soccer is gay? does that mean that soccer is male? or by 'gay' did you mean 'lesbian' and soccer is a female? Now im curious what gender all the other sports are. please tell me. Ive been wondering for so long whether or not volleyball was a man or a woman. Because it seems pretty dike-ish to me. Thats not to say that I dont enjoy watching volleyball. I think its pretty cool to watch. I just have never figured out what its sexuality was. Maybe you can help. thanks.

Anyway, in my opinion soccer is far more interesting than any of our sports (im anAmerican). First of all there are no commercial breaks. BIG plus. secondly the strategy involved is way more intricate than basketball, baseball or american football in my opinion. Thirdly I actually like that in soccer there is less scoring. It makes each score that much cooler and exciting. There's more anticipation involved and so when someone scores the climax is AWESOME. So in a way you really could say that soccer is like sex. Now i'm not so sure its like gay sex. But its definitely like heterosexual sex.

Uh oh... what if soccer has been gay all along and ive been having these unclean heterosexual thoughts about it... maybe... im gay

....I agree. Besides, I'm not sure that people realize that while they sit & watch for 3 or 4 hours of American "football" they are really only getting about 15 minutes of actual game play. Soccer is non-stop action from start to finish. It also takes great skill to manipulate a ball the way the soccer players do, not to mention maneuvering past 2 or 3 opponents to get to score in their goal. How much skill is there in holding a stretched object in your hands and running with it a few yards till you get knocked off your feet. One needs ways more skill & talent to play soccer - it is a real sport that deserves its fair share of respect.
At OP, as was said previously, target Europe for your marketing, people get seriously hurt for wearing the wrong team jersey in the wrongs side of town & soccer players are like gods there.

At OP, as was said previously, target Europe for your marketing,

No need for that, football (the other thing is rugby :) ) is worldwide popular sport and no need to target any specific market and you actually can't do it unless you forbid IP's from certain areas as people from all over the World would watch it :)

I own a fairly big football site and Europe is not the main source of traffic at all. Actually, there is at least 20-25% of US traffic and lot of Asian traffic as they're crazy about football too and the smallest country has like 50 millions population :)

There are lot of arrogant people in America like one above who said that football is sport for third countries as they don't have anything to be proud with beside that ( I have some other words beside arrogant but I would probably be banned for them) but America is already one of the biggest football markets since it's huge country and since football is more and more popular each day over there.

The biggest problem with football as much as with most of the sports is that it's pretty cheap niche so I wouldn't suggest anyone to deal with it unless you're ready to work hard, hard and hard and unless you have a knowledge to bring big traffic and work on it in long run... Blackhat is the last thing anyone should consider when thinking about football.

Arrogance doesn't have borders, it's enough to be a dickhead ;)

Thanks for the enlightenment. Enjoy your "sport" man. What a 1-1 tie again?, lets celebrate in the streets.

yeah, hockey has the much bigger scores too, lol

At least we have something to celebrate, your first world country barely can celebrate anything in sports :D I could even understand (not fully, of course) Americans to be arrogant in sports as they're the real sport power but Canadians... that's a joke, lol :D you don't even have your own leagues in any sports but send 2 teams to American leagues (and even these teams are filled with US players), haha... you don't have to be the third world country, you just need to have such mentality :)

I am VERY glad that the US beat Algeria, today! GO USA!

As for the "gay" comment about soccer, the same thing has been said about MMA....hmm, how many of those that make the "gay" comments have actually trained in a real facility like American Top Team or played soccer in a real competitive league?

I would say not many.

Intellectually inferior people resort to calling sports "gay", disparaging what other people like or other groups of people.....not cool, in my book.

Anyway, you like what you like. That is cool.

Try running around 5 miles per game (soccer) with NO breaks and constantly playing offense and defense OR training in MMA with UFC/BJJ training......THEN, tell me it is "gay".........

BTW, Canada has several very good Soccer teams and they play in the MLS.........I like hockey, it has much in common with soccer only on ice (and it is a real bitch to stand up on those skates, let alone try to score goals and play defense.....or punch someone )

Hey, we can all agree and disagree in a civil way, right?

Anyway, I love Soccer (or Football) and there is no denying that today was a great day for those that love Soccer and are pulling for USA.........

BTW, a lot of we Americans are nice people and not the arrogant jerks that we are often portrayed as ..........(just watch out for that Canadian meanie here on the forum)(just a joke) :)

GO USA!!!!!

niche1, I don't have anything against anyone who doesn't love football/soccer, that is matter of a personal perception of something and that shouldn't be my problem... I don't like or better said, I don't have idea what American football and baseball are about...

I don't have anything about calling football/soccer gay too... it's a personal view of it again, I can't have problems about that too... We can only have a fun and make jokes in this situation, no bad feelings at all.. I'm making jokes about American football calling it rugby etc..

But I do have problems when people act as arrogant morons insulting 3/4 of the World by calling them third countries that doesn't have anything to be proud with beside football. I'm sick of it and since that's something usually coming from some ignorant and arrogant Americans I thought he's American at first but when he said he's Canadian it makes it even more morbid. And of course not all Americans or neither Canadians are arrogant, generalization is not good in anything. It's just that normal people doesn't sound so high as it's normal to hear or read something normal. But when something stupid is said it just can't pass without noticing it.

So, as far as I am concerned, we can definitely disagree in a civil way but I can definitely answer as a jerk too if I find such kind of answer is needed.

And on the end, USA has pretty good team, more better on every tournament and it's great those guys are so passionate about football and advanced so much even if it's still far away from most popular sport in their country. I just hope people with money will realize soon that football can be a huge industry like it is in Europe and when (more than if) they realize that and invest big money in it, USA would probably be one of the biggest football powers on the World. The only problem with this is that football can't be massacred with commercials like other American sports are.

I'm sure that World Cup thing is important, but hey wait, I think the Cubs are on....

Dude over 3 BILLION people watched the last WC, with over 735 million watching the Final itself! That's pretty fucking awesome. Nothing compares, not the Superbowl, the World Series, or even the Olympics.

The World Cup is very hard to win and it's only ever been won by a handful of countries. A record 204 countries entered the qualifying rounds this time (took about 2 years) and only 32 got through. You should be proud the US was amongst them.

Now for a nation which is so geared to profit ya'd have thought there'd have been some kind of inkling that this is something the most powerful nation in the world needs to be involved in.

BTW I saw a great article the other day, wish I could find the link again. It was written by an American and it tried to explain why the Yanks should stop whining about cheating refs. Footie (I'm not calling it soccer) is a PLAYERS game. It's completely scalable and it's the exact same game whether you are playing it as a kid, or forming a pub team, or works team, or you are playing pro. Americans are generally 'spectators' and have rarely played the games they watch because the rules are so different at pro level. Most footie spectators have played or still do play the game.

Once they are on the pitch they are on their own and have to use their head. They can't run off to get advice from their coach, they can't stop for a 'time out' they just get on with it for 45 minutes. This includes the Ref. He makes a judgment call from his perspective and they frequently fuck up, but stopping for appeals and replays wouldn't work. Remember, scalable, and once you start having different rules for the pros you take it further away from the people.

As for being low scoring - that just means the defenders have done their job and kept a more attacking side from scoring. Defensive games are boring IMO and are all the fashion at the moment, though the South Americans can always be counted on to go all out and attack.

I think it's also a money thing now - there is so much involved that teams would rather play defensively and try and ensure they don't give anything away. Even a draw (tie) is better than losing! Often the semi-finals have the most thrilling games with the final itself being a bit boring.

I'd like to see Argentina and Brazil in the final as they are usually attacking. The Argies are dirty players though and fall over if you look at them. Oh and the reason for all the diving is to bluff the ref that they have been injured. He hasn't got eyes in the back of his head and can't see what we can (though he should confer with his linesmen). If the bluff works they'll be awarded a free kick, corner, or the the ultimate, a penalty. The continentals brought diving to our game and we used to hold them in contempt for it, but now we seem to have caught the bug as well. :(

Think of the benefits if you make an effort to understand and get into it. A WHOLE MONTH of non stop top flight football which you can either watch at home without being hassled or go to local bars where it's party time every day. It's paradise for guys!

please tell me some tecnique about get quick traffic, about this niche.

This question has gotten way off topic to be in the making money section.

Moved to the lounge.....

next time, if you want suggestions on how to monetize the world cup, come up with more relevant titles. ;)

if it makes any difference, this is what I think about the world cup...

basketball's my game :D

Funny, I find Baseball to be quite slow and boring. I used to play it years ago. The main action is between the pitcher, catcher and the one at bat. Otherwise, everyone stands around waiting for something to happen. Each to his own, I suppose.

I'd rather have my eyelashes pulled out one by one than watch a game of baseball. I got suite tickets to go see the Dbacks 10 years ago. Instead of watching the game, we just flipped through the TV in the suite watching some other shows.....every 1/2 hour we'd check over the balcony if the scores changed or if anything major happened....but no change... boring game....

they need to liven things up some how...idk put spikes on the ball or something...anything to give the game a bit more action

I don't care if the Americans care but I love the fact team USA got through as a group winner. They play to win and unfortunately a lot of teams in this tournament have decided not to. Looking forward to see more of them.

I would rather watch grass grow then watch a bunch of people try to make a ball in a 100 foot goal.

Soccer is for 8 year olds. After that they graduate to either football, baseball, basketball or hockey. However, good soccer players can become punters or field goal kickers in college or the NFL, so they actually have a purpose. But fortunately, Americans will never respect a game that's designed for toddlers. And I'm alright with that!

Can you walk around and run on occasion? Can you kick a ball? Congratulations. You can play soccer...the most boring and easiest game in the world. Even the uncoordinated nerds in school played soccer. All you got to do is kick a ball in a goal 1 time..which is the size of rhode island.. and then your a hero. I like how people call baseball boring. Well, maybe it is. A little. But at least you have to have several skills other than running. When I try to watch soccer I can't help but wonder if there isn't an international Tag You're It league as well. How about Red Light, Green Light? No wait, that requires more skills than soccer.

This is so crazy, the world goes absolutely nuts about soccer these weeks and here (europe) there is no normal life. Everybody is just talking about the games, there are barbecues everywhere and life is just a big party at the moment. And the US-people do not recognize and do not care :) Jump in in the big party!

Can you walk around and run on occasion? Can you throw a ball? Congratulations. You can play basketball...

Can you run and bump into people? Congratulations. You can play american football...

If you want to simplify football that much then the above is true for the oh so popular American sports as well.. you guys just don't feel 'soccer' yet because you've never won anything important.

The thing is that America has many sports - basketball, hockey, football, and so on. Soccer is the only real major sport in some countries. So while it may seem like we don't care, its more like we have more to cheer for. Soccer just went mainstream a few years ago, but its growing. We care about all of our national teams.

No time here for sports in less I am playing them (I enjoy playing soccer though, just not watching it), I don't even watch tv though for more then 20 minutes at a time and I own 3..

not true at all... you need skills to play football(soccer)... there's nutmeg, trivela, zidane's spin et cetera..or basic skills like stopping the ball with chest, curling cross.. it is not as simple as just kicking the ball..
if you put it that way.. anyone can play basketball too.. you just have to put the ball into the ring... no skill needed..

I heard that watching soccer makes you dumber. I really hope that is not the case.

As for getting traffic, uhh I don't know. Pick some longtail keywords bud.
