Upwork rent - is it scam?

Does anyone here have experience working with people renting your Upwork account for 20-30% share?

Always stumbled upon threads like this from time to time

I can only guess its a general scam, but in case it is not, kindly share your experience

Need to be very carrefully with where u rent, cause of a lot of scammers here, but not all is scam, there is good guys who really do what was saying

Is too risky to rent your personal upwork account. It can be banned if the one who rented the account contact peoples outside very easy. Also all information with be in your name that is really bad

You must be careful about who you are dealing with, prioritize reputable members and create a long term partnership
For example, there are always some new accounts offering partnerships and this is suspicious to say the least


But if you find trustworthy people to do that, it can work...there are people who have been banned from Upwork in the past, or because of their nationality or even because they just want to have a solid profile with previous reviews...these people want to have access to a profile and you can make money partnering with them

Yes , most renters use it for scam. I will suggest you to avoid it completely.

it can work with the right freelancers , maybe with whom you knows in a real life or had some previous work/ project with , at the end , its a question of trust and loyalty and as i always it can always go wrong , always secure your side

I'd be very cautious. Giving someone access to an account that's in your name carries a lot of risk, even if the offer sounds legitimate.

You sound like you are Upwork moderator who doesn't care about your freelancer.
Upwork should be boycotted.

Upwork controls the ENTIRE freelance job industry and they are very very evil. They banned me for what you ask?

I've been unable to post hiring ads for freelancers since they banned me in 2024.

Not because I did anything wrong, no scam, nothing. I had been hiring freelancers on Upwork long BEFORE Elance and oDesk merged in 2015. Since 2004.

Now freelancers are FINALLY waking up to the fact that Upwork is allowing scam jobs, they charge tons of connects for smaller jobs, and I had no idea that freelancers don't get their connects back if they aren't hired. That used to be a thing.

Every other job site, and there aren't many to begin with, no longer allows me to communicate and manage my staff outside of their site. They lie and use the BS "safety & security" line.

Upwork always allowed us to talk to and manage our staff off of Upwork once the contract was agreed upon and sure there was the odd scam freelancer who lied about their skills, some even lied about doing the work, but they were the exception, not the rule.

At first I couldn't figure out why they were FORCING us to ONLY communicate on their site, then I finally figured it out.

Some of them won't allow you to post a hiring ad if you aren't a rich company. They scrutinize the hiring ad & if I say I'm a non profit on a tight budget, they told me to take a hike that I was saying I couldn't pay. OMG. How does me being HONEST have ANYTHING to do with whether I can pay or not?

If I can't afford something, I don't hire people, and that's why I am very very careful with the time that is used.

Others job sites now demand you have a registered business LOL

Like I said, I've been hiring freelancers since 2004. NEVER EVER did I have to have a registered business just to post a bloody hiring ad.

The entire industry is completely DESTROYED.

Oh, and in 2024 just after they banned me, I found out from another micro company or solopreneur that they were shadow banning his hiring ads too.

I had been wondering why I wasn't getting as many freelancers responding to my hiring ads, now I knew.

And then freelancers wonder why there's no jobs out there.
