Several offer 5% back on certain services.

Good advice, I was able to combine this with loyalty points on a ebay reselling method years back and had a great time stacking the bonuses with it!

For example... The customer bought my ebay listing for a markup, I then paid for item with a card with 5% back, then got additional bonus points from suppliers website that got me more free gifts constantly, then sold those gifts too!

Edit: @NirvanaWolf made a good point, I forgot to mention that you only profit if you pay it immediately with debit card as I did, I do not promote debt or want anyone to pay interest because of my above statement.

Credit card culture is picking up in my country. Lots of offers. I have a card that offers 5% cashback on every online purchase.
Thanks to those who pay high interest on their credit card debt. They practically pay for our cashback and perks.

I had 3 CCs. Cancelled one because the offers/deals were not good enough anymore. I get heavy discounts, cashbacks, and airport lounge access on the other two and have never paid any interest.

I live by this quote "If I can't pay for it twice in cash, I can't afford it on credit". Its all about financial management, sadly they don't teach this stuff in college.

The cashback offer on my Chase Sapphire is great compared to its other offers. I use that card to pay bills instead of using my debit card, so it's useful to get cashback on things I already need to spend money on.

I'm not really into using credit cards, to be honest. I’ve never seen a real advantage in having one. The last time I maxed out my limit was buying candy and those 'services.'

Here in my country, there are people who get credit cards from 10-15 different banks, max them out, and don’t pay anything back. They end up with bad credit, but most of them just keep opening accounts at other banks. There are also people who open accounts in other people's names, using their identities and sometimes even bypassing facial recognition.

Credit system don't yet work in my country as in other countries. Even the entire 'debt industry' is not something to be toyed with especially for those who aren't very personal-finance literate. Over here, some loan sharks go as far as accusing debtors of heinous crimes and even accusing them of having HIV, while circulating videos and pictures of the victim(debtor), all this in hopes to blackmail them into paying their debt.

As long as you're responsible with your credit card, there's no upside to paying with a debit card.

Banks even provide more consumer protection on the credit card than they do with debit cards.

They're not doing it out of the generosity, they know that majority of people are irresponsible with credit and will spend it and pay interest.

For the rest, they'll try to get you with an annual fee - read the fine print and make sure there's no annual charge to the card, or that it is lower than the immediate value you will get from the card's benefits.

that can be good at times, lot of times they just offer credit cards that are not the best. amex and chase have the best reward system id highly recommend. hit your bonuses! stack them points

About a year ago, I got a credit card from a bank and I cannot pay it now because I have restructured it. I would like to have no money if I would not owe any money to any bank.

They set the game rules and they have so many loopholes.

I wish I was smart like them.

Oh, nice thread. I'll throw in my two pennies.
IF you are going to take advantage of a credit card offer where you may earn, say, XX,XXX points after spending $3k or $4k over the course of 3 or 4 months, use your credit card to pay your mortgage / rent. And then IMMEDIATELY pay it off so you owe nothing on your card. This way, you've contributed money towards earning the points by paying for something you already had to buy, anyway. Don't try to rack up $3k - 4k in debt by buying new television sets, gaming consoles, clothes, etc.
