I just had one of my wisdom teeth on my lower jaw removed and it was rather uncomfortable and complicated, even had to remove some parts of my bone...took more than one hour. Got 3 injections for the pain. Was kinda scared and was shaking all the time (had a really, really bad experience from my childhood), felt extremely uncomfortable or I would even say anxious. Normally I can handle pain well, but tooth extraction just hits different...especially when the tooth was quite deep.....

Still have one more to remove (other side).

Now I am thinking about sedation. Has anyone here tried sedation before? Did it help you with anxiety? Was it worth it?

Dental Sedation can prevent pain during dental treatment.. This is little different from anesthesia.

But, Anyhow after treatment, you will have to bear the pain.

Tooth pains are really Worst..
Nothing to-do but needs to tolerate tooth pain for few days.

the after-treatment pain is no problem for me....the problem is the anxiety and feeling during the treatment. the feeling of getting your jaw ripped out....

I never had an issue with that, but if you are having tremendous anxiety, I think they have laughing gas or something to that effect to relax you. If you're doing this, please make sure you have someone who can drive you home, as you will be in no condition to do so or have an Uber, Lyft, or taxi.

Nothing to worry about dude,
Just take a deep breath & focus

laughing gas should definitely help with that, I think in most places you can request that. In some countries, I think it's even possible to request general anesthesia for extractions, but its considered overkill

Then Deep Sedation can help you relax and feel comfortable during your dental procedure.

You fall asleep during the treatment.. Take care!

I know what it is that. I haven't even been able to remove it yet and I have the same anxiety problem.

There's something called twilight anesthesia/sedation. Basically you're under, but you can still talk. You won't remember much, if anything at all (I remember the dental assistant talking to me, not what she said but that she disturbed me LOL). I think that's what you're looking for.

Similar during colonoscopy.

This is just what I need since I have one extraction booked for Jan 21st! :D Excruciating pain for a week and still have to wait ten more days. Hopefully your recovery goes well. Did they not offer you anesthetic?

Wisdom tooth extractions are no joke, especially with bone involvement.

Have you considered asking your dentist about conscious sedation or IV sedation?
It might make the experience smoother and less stressful.

Yes, I will try to do exactly that.

Thank you, I hope yours will be alright as well. I went to a dentist in Bangkok that i went before. They didn't offer it to me, maybe they don't have it. I will get the other tooth done in an international hospital I guess.

I just got the local anesthesia (injection, got 3 of them). for the next tooth I will directly ask them about the sedation. i am sure they have in the hospital. the dentist I went to only had the local anesthesia.

Sedation might make the next one much easier for you; it's definitely worth asking about at the hospital. Hope it’s a smoother experience!

Anxiety will never go away for this. Have you tried some meditation? Also, doing a fully body massage before, helps a lot wiyh relaxation. Avoid coffee and smoking that day if possible.

that's because you're afraid of dentists (it's not normal, but it's common, most of us have this fear)...

This being said, how you've managed to resist un-sedated is a miracle and admirable. I would not even sit in the chair unless sedated, and I make sure that all of my dentists know this.

One thing about sedation (that every dentist should make you aware of) is that it could be dangerous for your heart, so if you have heart problems be careful!

I remember being so afraid of dentist needles that I absolutely refused to go when I was 12/13.

Eventually the dentists ironically bribed me with this massive lollipop afterwards if I went...

It worked.

Still was super scared of the needle but I kept thinking about the massive reward awaiting for me.

Had wisdom teeth extracted, and it was painful, but the worst was when I broke a front tooth, and the nerve was hanging out.
It was like a thin thread. The Dentist wound it around and pulled it out, I almost fainted (I was a child/teenager at the time).

I always wanted them to give me laughing gas, but they never did.

I had all the 3 removed a half year ago, two of them were impacted, so had to go through surgery, no sedation for me too, removed one each week, because the dentist refused to do so in one set, one of them was severely impacted (hardly visible above the gum) that It took an hour to remove, had 3 injections as well, and he had to even cut thin parts of the tooth next to it to allow for space to get it removed. Just watch out for the first week post surgery, and take precautions, because complications are the worst.
