Can AI Make You Immortal?

This is what I'm thinking about for a while now: do you think AI could actually help humans live forever one day?

Picture this: our minds, memories, and everything that makes us us getting uploaded into a machine, living on long after our bodies are gone. Sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie but with AI, brain-computer tech, and all the insane stuff happening in science right now, who knows? Maybe immortality is closer than we think.

So, what do you think? Could AI actually make humans immortal, or is it just wishful thinking? I'm curious to hear your take on this!

the consciousness and the spirit are probably already immortal, so if we're talking about these 2 specifically then yes, humans are immortal.

But the physical body is not, and cannot be immortal (at least that's what I think, feel free to prove me wrong), which is why I think humans can't live forever in the same body.

Regardless, I would not let the AI handle my consciousness. AI is good for many things, just not for handling the sensitive layers of a human being. If we're to upload / transfer our consciousness into other bodies / mediums I am 100% sure that human handling (or at least supervision) is necessary

Nice, thanks for sharing your thoughts. Do you think they will ask our permission if they want to do that? To be honest, I don't think so. Those who have the power, will take control of it (our body I mean) as they've done this always during the history...

they won't ask for anyone's permission. We're at a stage in evolution where talking sense into murderers will yield no good results. It's either us or them.

I wanted to say more, but I've got a headache and can't think straight at the moment, so I prefer to relax instead of spewing out nonsense. But with other occasion I'll give better reply, I promise

I watched some movie long ago with the exact same idea, it was a really nice one, but no.

there is a TV show on this and this transhumanist idea of creating sentinel robots and also transferring conscience into some of them. It's called Westworld. You can check it out, first two seasons are pretty ok. Then it goes downhill with too many cliffhangers and revivals of characters that made the show lose any reasonable sense to continue.

If it's AI, it would not be you. It would be something that's designed to imitate you. If you upload your brain into a machine that can simulate your brain onwards, that could be an immortal copy of you. But that's not really AI.

I personally believe that when your body dies, you die and any copy of you in a machine is not going to be truly you, but a copy of you/your mind that will diverge from you. The copy could be immortal, but you wouldn't be. The process that is your conscious experience will terminate and some other conscious experience will start in the machine even if that entity itself feels like an extension of you. But you would not feel that, it would be that artificial entity in the machine.

Still, if I could copy my mind into a machine and if I feel convinced this copy of me would not experience a hellish digital nightmare prison, I would do it and hope that my he really enjoys it, becomes immortal and receives a super cool robot body that can go mountain biking. But it would be very important that the robot body would experience pain when having to pedal uphill!

Humans go through so much in their life, ever evolving thoughts and emotions. Grief, sorrow, happiness. Doesn't matter how complex an algorithm you write, it can never be the same as a human brain.

Occult-wise, there are immortality/extreme longevity techniques available already, you don't need this robot crap... Check taoism and yoga.

I disagree with this

Transhumanism is a natural ability of humans, religion is an ideology created to enslave us (by enclosing our minds into binary thinking: good vs evil) and to keep us worshipping our enslavers, no matter how good or bad they are.

If AI could store our memories idk if I would take it. Heavy reliance on technology could be our downfall, then again, AI would benefit us objectively I suppose in terms of better human bodies (if we take transhumanism route). Still at the end of the day, we have to fight against the universe. Whether base human or AI. We don't really know what can happen for sure.

that's one way to look at it and I agree with it

Heavy reliance on technology could be our downfall

only if we don't wise up and / or become highly moral and responsible with life in general, and with sentient life in particular. Advanced civilizations have technology that's way beyond our ability of understanding it, so if technology meant downfall these advanced civilizations would not exist anymore.

But they still exist which means that they are also highly moral and highly responsible which allows them to dominate their tech instead of the tech dominating them

we can't fight the Universe, much less "have to". The Universe is infinite in all directions, and never created by anyone (it simply exists and had existed for all eternity and will keep existing for all eternity), and an entity that's infinite in time and space can not be fought, much less defeated.

I don't know why you think that we have to fight the Universe, probably you meant that we have to conquer the unknown, in which case I agree. Evolution is always about breaking records and conquering the unknown, we got where we are today because at some point in time, one cave human had stopped bludgeoning his partner to steal his food and had started asking himself questions or trying new things to make / get his own food. Closed systems never evolve, so we constantly have to break the systems and go out of our comfort zones if we are to evolve...

But anyway, I feel like I'm steering away from the main point (fighting the Universe), so again, we don't have to fight the Universe at all, I really don't agree with this take. We just have to.... well... keep living our lives, keep exploring, keep asking questions and trying stuff out, and keep creating. When we do all these we don't have to fight anyone or anything because we are all busy bettering ourselves

There are few ideas to be immortal with AI, this one is working but we don't have good and fast AI yet:
-RNA technology invented with David-19, we can program our cells to make telomeres longer. It's known method for decades, even tested and you can extend your life for 20-50 years
-problem with above, if you activate a telomerase enzyme, you are going to activate dozens of cancer types in your system
-AI is to make custom cancer medicine for you and deliver it with RNA injection
Must be custom, perfect to check your whole DNA, check cancer DNA, find a cure in short time and then produce the injection
