Palau Digital Residency ID: Any Use Cases?

I recently came across the Palau Digital Residency ID, which you can obtain by simply searching "Palau ID" on Google. The process is straightforward, and the ID is issued legally by the Republic of Palau. Once obtained, the physical card is shipped directly to your home.

One possible use case I’ve thought of is using this ID to open accounts on crypto exchanges. However, beyond that, it seems limited in its applicability for most other scenarios.

I wanted to share this here to see if anyone else has encountered or used this ID and whether there are any creative or practical use cases for it.

I have one! This is a great way to open accounts for crypto exchanges. Bybit only makes you complete the KYC one time. My palau ID just expired last week, but my bybit account is still active. 10/10 recommend this.

Can you highlight a bit more on your country of residence and the process you undertook for the program? The documents submitted, time taken for delivery etc.?

$250 a year seems extremely reasonable.

That was my main question. I believe there wouldn't be much use for it outside of crypto exchanges. Most EMIs would likely refuse the Palau KYC, though some less regulated countries in the EU (Bulgaria)might accept it. However, a proof of address (POA) will still be required, which is the easier part to handle.

I've found most places here in the USA will not take it. I can't even buy cigarettes with them half the time without arguing with them. They will take Canadian ID but they won't take Plauauian ID. They use the excuse well if we can't scan it... I called the commission and they said no we don't take that (I've tried in multiple states). Then my next favorite question is are you a us citizen why not just use your normal ID. Works good for crypto though...

Yea I agree. I will say has saved me when xfer from kucoin, but that's about it. I guess also I used it at one bank once and they definitely didn't like it but humoured me.

Maybe when they implement their mailing, phone and business registration laws it will be better. I keep asking them and they just keep saying we have the legislation but it hasn't been implemented.

The only use case i remember is that some people use it to circumvent KYC on crypto exchanges.

Like someone stated in this thread bybit used to accept the palau id for kyc verification, so americans and other people could get access to their exchange

I checked and realize that Palau Digital Residency ID is legal. It is officially issued by the Republic of Palau under their Digital Residency Program. However, it does not give citizenship, visa, or tax benefits—it is mainly for digital identity.

They have legislation for businesses coming. This would mean 0% tax for the business. Also they offer you an extra 1 year there if you have it I believe so there are small little perks. It's mainly to drive up "tourism" for them since they are a small island.
