Keyword research is crucial for black hat SEO success. What unconventional methods or tools do you use to uncover high-potential keywords with low competition?

Keyword research is crucial for SEO, not matter if it's white, gray or black.
I usually use Semrush and Ahrefs for that.

Not unconventional, but all I really need is to check ranking reports for either competitors or other domains ranking for similar keywords - so 'Organic keywords' reports in Ahrefs, 'Organic Research' reports in SEMrush, or 'Site analysis keywords' report in Serpstat. I rarely need anything more. There's always the Reddit method too: https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/guide-keyword-research-via-reddit.1577914/

I use tools like keyword chef, Ahref content gap and Reddit Keyword research tools

First i will get top keywords from semrush, adwords and find further keywords by searching them on google trends, and related rising searches, choose keywords that have high trend, for that select 7 days time period in google trends

Semrush, Ahrefs, Ad Planner,
Similar web to double the competitor(s) overall traffic,
Double-check with the SERPs & use ahrefs/semrush to get a better idea of the KD

Does walking to rob a bank make the walking BH? :D

I use semrush and Google trends
You can find long tail variations but the KD won't be accurate

For uncovering high-potential, low-competition keywords, unconventional methods include:

  1. Competitor Gaps: Use tools like Ahrefs or SEMrush to identify keywords competitors rank for but don’t target heavily.
  2. Reddit/Forums: Analyze niche discussions for long-tail keyword ideas.
  3. Autocomplete Hacks: Use Google, YouTube, or Bing autocompletes with wildcard symbols (*).
  4. Clickstream Data: Leverage tools like SimilarWeb for untapped search patterns.
  5. Underserved Regions: Focus on local or non-English variations in your niche.
Combining these with traditional methods can yield unique opportunities.

There are many unconventional methods but I can not reveal all. I want to share just one method I use - Search for a competitive keyword in your niche. The top ranking sites for this keyword are all powerful authority sites. We are not looking for them. You need to scroll down - find the niche sites ranking in 20+ positions. We are looking for sites which are not very powerful, not very old but ranking for a few thousand keywords, preferably 100+ keywords in the top 3. Then you can take those keywords and create your content. Now if you can find many small sites like this, you can get thousands of easy to rank keywords very fast. That's it.

I used to search for free websites like BlogSpot, WordPress etc. which are ranking for many keywords. These sites are very easy to outrank.
