This is a tad off IM topics so please give me some leeway.

I have a friend who has been a friend of mine for 40 years who lost his wife last month and I hosted him with my driver/caretaker and her husband last weekend, At his wedding his wife was pissed off because he and I sat at the bar and did shots but she was/is a doll and she has hosted me more than once in their home and treated me like family.

He says the only reason he has any money is because of me and I say that the only reason I have money is because of him. Funny because I'm right for once in my life.

I had rooms at a top of the line resort, we went to lunch and dinner as family, and I threatened to beat him if he tried to pay for anything despite knowing his wealth is past mine by Olympic standards.

He and I had a bunch of reminiscing, we go back a bunch, shared stories about his wife and shared a few tears (yeah, the hard ass BTB does cry real tears) and all in all it was a great weekend.

We've talked every day on the phone and his words were, "talking to you takes away the pain".

If you have friends in need, absorb the pain, it will take some juice out of you but it will make a difference in their life and their life matters more than yours.

Do the right thing and make the world a better place.

These are the types of posts that I would love to see much more here. So many are so driven by money and business that they often forget what actually truly matters - life.

I don’t want to take over your thread with my post, but I do have to say that you couldn’t have posted this in a better time.

My best friend, the friend whom I have known since all my life and who I would gladly die for was diagnosed with a bad brain tumor a few years ago at 17 years old. His surgery was postponed for a few months because of unknown reasons, and that almost killed him.

My best friend went through something that I am now also going through; I was just recently diagnosed with a rapidly growing tumor in a critical and tricky spot.
That combined with quickly worsened heart issues that I have had for years, have been quite the experience for the last month. I’m incredibly lucky to have someone like him be there for me.

I don’t have many friends, but I don’t need many when I have a friend like him - I love the guy to death.

Friendships rock. Cherish them, people.

Important post @BassTrackerBoats. I’m sure all of the people here would love to see more of these from you (and from everyone else, of course).

The trait of a strong man is that he cares about those around him. A strong man not only use his power (money, influence, etc), but he uses the power of Empathy, and uses it to support those in need.

Sincere condolences for the loss of your friend!

I really really hope you will be healthy bro. Speedy recovery and fully enjoy the life!!!

First of all, do you have a driver/caretaker? Is "caretaker" a disguised word for "bodyguard"? I picture someone like the guy from transporter picking you up lol

Jokes aside, I’ll just say that it’s harder to find a true friend than most people think. The more the years go by, the more I realize the sad reality of this. When we’re kids, everything is easier, but as you grow older and your responsibilities increase, so does your selfishness and concern for your own interests. It’s inherent to adult life, but it’s also disgusting.

If you’ve already passed the test of putting money/business into your friendship and you’ve survived that, and with good results too, then it’s definitely a real friendship.

Now it’s your turn to call him daily and "entertain" him to help him get through his mourning in the easiest way possible. I guess it will be easy at first, but as time goes on, it won’t be as easy, so arm yourself with patience. And if at any point the situation feels endless, remember that he would do the same in reverse.

And I do.

When one of our sons died a few years back I had a friend do the same so I learned that from him.

I think an update is in order as I opened the door.

My friend is doing well and is on the "let's move forward" train as opposed to the "Damn, this hurts" train.

My wife initially said that the phone calls to him were too taxing on me... gosh, I've been given a gift to be a part of his journey.

Make the world a better place and call someone that could use an ear.

Hate to be platitudinous but considering some thing going on in my life, some places I hang around in and some morbid curiosity getting the best of my sanity, it is completely free of charge to be nice to others. Everyone is fighting their own battles and it would make the world infinitely better to just be constructive and positive rather than destructive and negative.

I'm happy for your friend and you are a great human being. Hoping for the best to the both of you and those you hold dear.
