I've seen a few topics and it's hard to understand what I can do before and what I can do after.

I would like to restore entire domain with original article and links but, can i make "changes" to make it more readable and SEO friendly.

Before uploading the domain and indexing. Can I slightly change the content in articles for seo and readability, before uploading domain to the Internet. Or just upload old articles and waiting?

The most important thing is the structure of the site for the most part, remaining the same.
You can make changes to the content already existing content that has been crawled and indexed by Google.


Also, ensure there no error 404 pages. This is important.

I would do this a bit later on. Initially, recreate the domain 1:1, let it be as it is for a few months and then do the adjustments.

If the site was a bit broken (images all over the place, etc.), then sure, fix that, but don't screw around with long paragraphs and subheadings initially.

Reusing the old content/html is not really required, you can use a totally different fresh content, images, etc...
It's more about concerving the niche, topics, stucture and type of the website & pages as well as making sure to recover most of the old pages,

If the old content is decent enough, well-detailed, up to date,
Then it's simply way easier to use and simply will be doing the jo, but it's not a must to use

The opinions of the wisemans are divided, the content in the articles is good but it lacks a structure, H1/H2/H3 paragraph, list. I was thinking about refresh some article and next add new article, hence my question what is a better choice and can i do it. Thank you all very much for the advice

I've used expired domains in the past and even changed the entire niche, kept nothing from the old websites.
I shit you not, I have 6 of them still live after 4 years and getting about 8-10k UV/month from a bunch of articles.

You REALLY don't need to be THAT strict.

I mean you buy an expired domain, that's OK.
But then you pull out the old website's content out of the wayback machine, which is considered copying somebody's content.
Then you put this copied content on this domain that existed, which makes you using somebody's work for your own purpose.
Can't it lead to DMCA complaints as well as lawsuits for stealing someones work?
Is the strategy just to hope it slips through unnoticed?

the same reason adressed by some other guy i know off bhw why he won't be using the same old content/pics, etc...
personally, i've never faced such poblems, i've done this for a ton of domains that belonged to well known companies, personal portfolios, etc...

but, there's always possibilities to face such legal problems,
so if you're concerned, just use different non-copyrighted content straight up,

you have to make sure that you're not using a trademark domain either of ways,
the domain could easily be taken from you even if you paid 4-5 figures for it

You can be asked to take the content down or you can get DMCAed, but that's realistically the worst thing that can happen. And there's slim chance that it will ever happen.

But if there are some phone numbers and addresses in the old concent, feel free to remove those or put some different ones there to not raise any red flags.

I just saw "shrinershospitalcincinnati.org" went expired couple hours ago and grabbed by someone. It has DR27 with super quality 444 links.
My niche is related to health, but I was hesitating to register it, because it's a real hospital after all..
What would you say, would it be fine if I placed some general info about hospital and placed "This is not an official hospital website, here is real one: abc.com"?
They got a different website name as I see.
I think after a month it will get chinese slots on it.
But it's a trademark though...

I Would generally avoid big trademarks, as they often don't fuck around and simply file Wipo and you will lose the domain.
