should I get a "nice car"?

normally i am stubborn and don't listen to people telling me how to run my life. but this one's got my attention because several people now have told me to get myself a "nice car". their reason is "to enjoy your youth" or "once you get old you will regret it"

I drive a piece of shit simply because i don't think a car is going to make me happy. to me an old piece of shit 1998 honda and a new 2024 lamborghini are one and the same. each car gets you from point a to point b. besides, i don't know WHERE i would go if i had a nice car. I don't need to go anywhere. I am not the type of guy to go to bars and clubs to "pick up chicks" it's just not me. guys that do that, good for them, but i am not interested in that. a car is also a depreciating asset. imagine i put $20,000 in the bank and next year i come to the atm to check my balance and now it's worth $16,000. why would i do that? but getting old and regretting things scares the shit out of me so hence why i am even posting this question. normally i just dismiss people and move on.

1) what do people mean by "nice car"? is a lexus a nice car? what about bmw? i know lamborghini and g-wagon are nice cars but those are expensive as hell to buy, lease, and insure.
2) should i get a nice car? how would i feel different after getting a nice car?

I fully agree, I could have used my money to buy a 'nice car' when I was younger but instead built more websites and now I can pretty much buy as many nice cars as I like.

Doing this has allowed me to spend as much time on holidays as I like and I should never need to to go back to a 9-5 again.

I think stick with your shit box and concentrate on financing things that'll make a bigger difference to your life.

I'm 67 and have owned "nice cars" and cars held together with duct tape and I prefer the ones that are held together with duct tape for a daily driver.

A nice car is almost always a status symbol more so than a mode of transportation and they depreciate so buying something that depreciates that costs 90 grand + is just not a smart move unless you have a warehouse with pallets of 100 dollar bills in it.

Our current car is a late model Subaru, nothing fancy and what I call industrial as it is not anywhere near as smooth as the Mercedes. Cadillacs, Volvos (they used to be luxury but are now an everyman kind of ride from what I see) or the Infinity I used to own. My Father really liked the Infinity and I got it at a silly good price as I financed a house for a guy and used the profits from that to buy it.

I gave that Infinity to him when I started to catch on and, like I said, he really liked that car.

I wasted so much money on those cars I should be brought out behind the barn and shot... give me the 35K Subaru over them any day now that I finally caught on.

a nice car is a car you feel happy to have and take care of it, my dream car is a mini coup yours could be a different model at end you only need a car to move from point a to point b if you don't need to expend your money don't do it. Not everything in life is to buy expensive things.

but what's the point of being rich if you are not enjoying the money. you'd be richer in the sense that the number in your bank account would be larger, but it's just a number if you are not enjoying it.

Just don't go over ur budget, do research and find a car that you like that will hold it's value for at least 1-2 years and then repeat the process.
Owning a nice car is more like a reward for your achievement and additional motivation to push further.
And no, it's not the same as some shitbox because I've done both and I care about my back not hurting after a hunger miles, not hearing anything while driving 100mph, etc...
Just don't go all in as that is shitty decision that will probably bury you, and always do research about that car before you buy it, there are lots of cars that are "nice" but unreliable af and money pits.

If I have enough money one day I'll just buy it just to see what it feels like. A car is a big status symbol in my country (3rd world country) and car prices are 3x more than the prices in EU and the US (because of tons of taxes). For example if a brand new Mercedes - E class is $50k in the US then its price will be $150k in my country.

I think you should just buy it and see what it feels like. You can sell it if you don't like it. At least you won't have any regrets.

People do whatever they want but as for my experience with cars, I've always been happy with leasing.

Which means I rent a car for a specific duration and get a new one whenever I want. Way more advantageous, and less costly in the long run as cars are very expensive and can easily cost you an arm and a leg when they get sick.
