Skeptical about a squeeze page - Some answers please

I have a site that is gradually getting an increasing amount of traffic. I have so far not put a squeeze page on my site due to the following reasons. Could somebody please give me their thoughts on the following.

1. Will a squeeze page increase bounce rate? I already have a 55% bounce rate. Do people leave quickly when they see a pop up as soon as they enter a site.

2. Will a squeeze page affect SERP's negatively in any way. I have also seen some squeeze pages pop up when a person tries to leave a website. I am more comfortable with this one but I have also read that it can negatively affect your ranking as Google does not like it when you try to stop them from leaving your page. Is this true.

Please let me know if you have some answers to these questions. Thanks in advance.

just don't use one of those crappy "traditional" squeeze pages like the ones on clickbank. those suck and i hit the back button every time i see one.

Yeah, I agree. They really suck. I tried to leave a clickbank product page recently and it tried to hold me three times!!! I ended up closing the browser on that one - LOL

I have a 75% bounce rate on a blog I have that gets 200 unique visitors a day - Is this bad? If so, how can I fix it? It is a WP blog that looks just like any other WP Blog.

Bounce rate differs from niche to niche.
i have a website ranked 1st on google with 90% bounce rate , and its in the same position for 2 years.

build the site for peopole, not for robots.

There are some issues with these techniques. The biggest being that people are tired of seeing them and having emails overrun with garbage due to them.

As for your first question, popups ALWAYS tend to turn people away. They are an instant deterant for real people, as they get in the way and are annoying. Make your site work for you, not against you. Having a popup getting in the user's way instantly screams " SALES PAGE!!! " and they are gone if they know any better to do so.

Don't use popups on your sites, as they are a pain in the butt. Instead, guide your reader with your own onpage ads or content references. They are their seeking something and if the popup gets in their way, they will be instantly gone to avoid messing with it.

In the case of squeeze pages, I don't use landing pages for natural search traffic at all. That is death, as they are there for information, not a sales pitch. If they aren't interested in that specific offer you hit them with, you are going to lose them forever in an instant.

Now, I do use landing pages in direct compaigns that work for that purpose, with email lists and ad posts. Don't destroy your natural search traffic with a crappy squeeze page form though. That's just as bad as the crappy clickbank product sales pages. Everyon has seen them and is numb to buying in, unless they are new to the internet and don't know any better in the first place.

Thanks Aftershock. I was pretty skeptical about it as well. As you say, squeeze pages are good techniques when the traffic is not organic. I am not going to put a squeeze page on my site.

Why not put your offer up on a seperate domain?
If you have something you'd like to offer, in exchange for emails
build your squeeze page with the offer, and send additional traffic to that directly?
You can always have an optin box with your offer directly on the page and if your readers want to optin they can.

Popups are a pain, but apparetly they work.
I went with a lightbox that fades in once for each user and then never again.
Works for me. And rather than trying to "keep" people on my squeeze page, there is only one place to go. the optin box. no links, no ads, no nothing. They can hit back if they like, but if they got there in the first place, it's probably to grab the offer.
