So this past Sunday, I told an existing client that I wouldn't be able to continue working with him. Guess what the dude did?

He left a 1 star review on my freelancer.com profile.

Such is life.

Now I am going to lose potential business because he took it personally even though I delivered everything as per his requirement while we worked together.

And not just that, he even marked the project as incomplete.

But yeah, some people are just a pain in the ass.
Indeed.

There are some clients like this one who think they own you. I think the reason he left this 1 star feedback is because he wanted me to go back to him on my knees to take it back but I am not going to do that for obvious reasons.

I am sure you would be able to ask support to remove it or at least investigate it somehow.

One bad review does not define you as a provider.

When you do provide a quality service, ask the buyer(s) to leave a review so that one gets buried.

How many reviews do you have? If you have 50 and only this 1 is a bad review, I wouldn't care...saying as a customer potentially interested in hiring your services

They always side with the buyers for obvious reasons.

I know. This is what I am planning to do. But he knew that this false review of his would negatively affect my business and yet he went on to do what he did.

Some people are just too callous I guess.

203. I appreciate your kind of words but sometimes people judge too quickly and hence, my concern.

You need to put this in the rearview mirror and move on. If you are in any business, you will get crappy reviews even if you did a good job. There are some toxic people in this world, and you have to let them be as you can't change them, but you can change how you react to them and the situation. Take time away from the internet or walk to clear your mind, as that can help.

Yeah I know that feeling! Some people can’t just understand things. This happens to me almost every day , so I will not lose my business for them , I’m trying to be more smarter and more patient.

Still worth a shot reaching out, the review clearly doesn't show what actually happened "had to cancel due to fake promises" after you initiated the end of the partnership. So petty it's almost comical.

Have reached out to the support team. Will keep you guys posted in this thread.

Update:

Have a look at this lads.

Hope you're having a good day!

We received an update from your client on the project "Project for My name." ID: 38277XXX. Unfortunately, it is within their decision not to remove the feedback provided.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Don't hesitate to let us know if you have other concerns and we'll address them.

And the platforms are no better, I remember a nasty customer left 1 star review on fiverr, calling me idot or something. I asked fiverr to remove the review. Instead fiverr cleaned up the review removed the word idiot but 1 star remains and the rest of review.
These nasty customers know that these platform are there for them to abuse so stop using them.

Yes, that is what I am planning to do. I am sorry that you also had to go through a similar situation.

Update:

His feedback is almost buried now. 2 More genuine 5 star reviews to go.

Just remember that clients make your business and if you are getting a high number of bad clients then you should try tweaking your onboarding/acquisition process so that you filter out the ones who are not a good fit for your company and/or make the expectation better aligned to what you are delivering.

Yes this really helps. The moment you start avoiding cheap/unreasonable clients things are good.

I filter out people based on initial conversations. Profanity and complaining about their past experiences is a turn off for me. I usually politely tap dance to avoid these clients
