I have many classified sites. Now a scammer writes to the users and pretends to be the administrator of my pages and blackmails the users. A user has now informed me about this.

I have temporarily closed the pages, backed up all the logs and informed the users. Now I'm thinking about going to the police.

Has anyone experienced this before? What did you do?

sorry to hear, but thanks you just gave me an idea about how people could pretend to be admin on my site using live chat, I need to have a warning or a separate admin message facility to keep the plugin separate from main chat I thinks might be the best idea.

You should put up a banner though to inform your users that the site has not been hacked (I don't think your saying that anyway) but I think if you are in EU you have to record your incident in your cyber security logs and inform all users withing 72 hours, I thinks.

internal chat is a good idea. I will now block also more countries via Cloudflare geo location firewall and block also vpn and tor users.

And i think about a new verification and registration process.

I will install also a wp banner with awareness about security informations

police will do shit.
yeah its more like to safe your ass if a customer contact a lawyer and court you as administrator.

Yeah, it happened to me. Sent me a private message on bhw calling me a scammer and scamming him out of $400 when I didn't even know him.

You should probably contact all your clients and let them know that something fishy is going on and they might be messaged by someone pretending to be you.
You can write to them via the same channel this scammer is contacting them.

Don't waste your time going to your local police, it's completely useless, maybe this scammer is located in another country, nothing they can do about it

The police arrested him today. He is from Europe. They were able to track him down using my logs. He wasn't using a VPN/Tor and was sending text messages with his private cell phone number. His internet provider passed all his private data on to the police after a judge authorized it. The police are now analyzing the devices they have confiscated. He will be brought before the judge next week. He is facing several years in prison for extortion and threatening several people, identity theft and commercial enrichment. In addition, all victims can file a complaint and sue for compensation.

It makes me very happy to see that for once a criminal was f***ed

You posted this Yesterday and managed to get a Judge and police to arrest him the next day (In Europe) oh wait and the internet provider, jeez man how fast do you move? that's some matrix-type shit.

Whatever makes you sleep better at night!

Almost every seller on BHW has an impostor.

They like to try to trick people with TG accounts that look similar.

Also they contact real sellers at the same time, in order to give buyers a trial account.

Which country are you from? They might be using fake login details and a VPN. Collect more information for membership procedures. It might discourage them from joining the site

I don't know what is the purpose of this post, but it's clearly fake...or local police invented a story and OP is being naive enough to believe in this 12-hour prison shit hahah...in one day the police arrested a man for virtual crimes in another country and now ''He will be brought before the judge next week'' ? Come on, we are not lawyers but we are not retarded

And then all the victims sued and got their money back, OP won the Nobel Peace Prize and everyone lived happily ever after

Okey guys let me give you a lesson.

Europe is not a 3. world country. The most internet providers in europe save DNS logs and IPv4 and IPv6 logs for few months. In this countries the police and intelligence have access to this.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_retention

This are the global organisations for all continents which manage and give the IP address to Internet Providers.

So if your check your IP, you will see in this database which Internet Provider is the owner of your IP address.
https://ipinfo.io/

Here you will see all registered IPs of all countries, companies and internet providers
https://ipinfo.io/countries

The second point is the most Internet providers use an own DNS server and they safe the logs of all your internet activities.
If you wanna make a test, you can create a free account by https://nextdns.io/ and put the ip in your internet browser and export the dns logs and you will see what internet providers see about your internet activities.

The second check what you can do is, you can install Safing.io and track what your computer send all informations about you.
https://safing.io/

The third test which you can make is, you create a canary token a click on the link and you will see what tracking script can see about you (geo location etc.)
https://canarytokens.org/nest/

Another part is, that in Europe the most mobile provider ask for ID identification if you buy a new sim card. And they can identify you about the IMEI Nr.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Mobile_Equipment_Identity

In my case, the user demanded naked pictures of women (In the meantime, more people have come forward) who were looking for a partner and then blackmailed them for money and threatened to publish the pictures on the Internet. The women forwarded the screen shots to me and I contacted the police. Now I had to write to all the users to tell them to contact the police directly. The public prosecutor's office and the police now have to collect all the evidence and press charges. I have temporarily closed all portals.

The police officer from the cyber crime unit explained to me that a judge has to issue an order for the logs to be handed over. In this case, the lives of several people are at risk and are given higher priority than the privacy of the criminal. That's why they were given access to the logs.

So guys do you think the police will wait? They send the criminal a letter and invite him to dinner? And ask him to stop and give a second chance? Then he can go shopping with the money and publish the pictures on the Internet?

Please guys, if you have no idea, just s*** the f*** up! My english is very bad and I cannot explain in detail all the processes of how an investigation and laws work.
The police in europe are not stupid. They work internationally and the laws are getting stricter and stricter and they have also access to data.

I don't tell stories for likes and I'm also not a liar. But now it's okey for me...good lesson...I won't tell you anything else in future.

Should make it discus, no idea why your bothering with overhead.

No one doubts your story its just its less than 24hrs

Since the person is another country did his country issue court warrant to arrest him or you just reported him and the police went to pick him up within 12hrs
