Looks very sad. Now a days, it is getting pain to store crypto in the merchant's site. This is why i use crypto in self hosted wallets. So i never get stolen.

Always told this multiple times to my friends and family members - Not your keys, not your crypto. Also, this hack could have been an insider because the wallet that was hacked is a multi sig wallet, meaning you need more than one keys to do certain tasks with it, including sending money to someone else. So hackers needed to hack multiple keys (which is technically not possible. If you know how blockchain works and how secure these wallets are). If it wasn't an insider, than the keys must have been poorly managed and were hacked through social engineering or getting into their own system (like database) where they stored the keys probably.

This is what I was doing on WazirX so far. Used to cost me a lot in terms of TDS and fees but it was a good way to safely convert USDT to fiat.

P2P selling would have meant possibility of scam money hitting my bank account.

IDK where I would be able to convert crypto to fiat now. :(
To convert crypto to fiat, have you tried Binance or Paxful?

They do not allow crypto to be sold on their exchange for fiat.

You can only do P2P. Which is risky as scammers like to convert their dirty money into USDT/ other coins.

Another reason why money shouldn't be left in exchangers

Willing to wager it got hacked cuz some sped higher up employee(s) decided to install stupidity shit on their devices
