Was planning to use their service for a new laptop but in end didn’t get old laptop so got saved. What about you’ll?

How can you use them on a laptop, I thought they were a cloud platform extension service. Nothing that a basic laptop or desktop user would have to even be concerned about?

It was a kernel level antivirus called falcon by crowdstrike
Lots of laptop did got hit mostly they were the ones that were given by the employer they already had this antivirus installed so yeh and lots of other windows enterprise servers that were running on cloud also had this antivirus

It came on dell website so I thought might be a Mcafee alternative

I guess it might if you boot from the windows partition. If you kept using linux, you wouldn’t have a problem.

Yeah it pretty much is it comes I think preinstalled with a lot of enterprise systems stuff like where you rent physical system or laptops to give to your employee you can rent those for like few dollars a week from some rental company and usually most of them have some sort of antivirus installed by default like Mcafee or falcon by crowdstrike
It wasn't really a windows issue so it doesn't matter if you had a pirated one or the genuine copy The issue was because of an antivirus software that was kernel level which pushed out a update which was corrupted which then caused windows that was updated from that to be corrupted as well

Yeah most of us are safe only those were affected that had that antivirus installed which was mostly enterprisesWe dont update and we are safe.
sucks for the IT guys though some poor soul is still out there manually getting all the system back to normal one by one repeating the same manual thing over and over again

Well, it has nothing to do with regular Windows users in general, so no worries here to on my Windows computers. I don´t know any normal user that uses CrowdStrike cybersecurity software.I use mac and linux. Had a laugh about this stupid bug.

Yeah I heard that to undo te change they have to login through safe mode and uninstall something? That sucks if you have let's say 5000 computers in a network. Plus you might not have the permission/setup to open the PC in safe mode remotely...
This absolutely sucks. I hope the IT guys learn their lesson and start using linux next time.

Good for them. Rich fcks need to learn to not use 3rd party software from Microsoft. Look at their chat-gpt. It's derailed to the point a single prompt from claude gives more information than chat gpt in an hour of correcting. Microsoft is another Meta. Do not trust fcks.
Just get your own custom OS without some pesky updates. Security is something you can create by modularizing within the system. You need to have own solutions to those problems like viruses etc. I'm gonna create my backup system.

Well the IT Guy is probably already on Linux. the main problem is Sara from HR or Marketing who isn't on linux
Also if you had some additional security that had some disk encryption to protect the entire system Especially the windows partition then Then it's even more challenging to fix to the point of connecting another computer hosting the decryption server and regenerating the keys I think
