You can try to get some traffic history if it is available, if you see lots of traffic and a sudden drop off while the content didn't change then it may have been deindexed but if the traffic only dropped as the domain expired then, again you're probably fine.

Depends if the expired domain has good or bad backlinks. If they are good it will actually benefit you to buy an expired domain.

Are there any benefits on old unused domain? I've purchased bunch of domains back in 2015-2018 which I've never used yet. Will those rank better than a domain I'd just buy now?
