Redirecting aged domain to new website

So I have a 3-year-old domain that I haven't used in the last 12 months. This old domain has many backlinks, including a few coveted and good backlinks for my industry.

I have a new website now, only a few months old with no backlinks -- and I was wondering if it's a smart idea to redirect the old domain URL to my new one. The old domain has never been penalized or anything like that, it just has a high DA score as well as good backlinks.

Would I benefit from doing a redirect to my new site? Or does this usually cause problems sooner or later?

Yes, marketers do this all the time and for awhile was one of the most used methods for people new to SEO.

Still works SOMEWHAT but as long as there's no penalty and the niche is the same, you should be okay. Unless there's something I'm missing?

well i sell SEO domains and about 50% of the time the buyers do this they don't develop they just redirect odd indeed but i guess it works since so many people do it!

add some relevant content to old domain, let it get indexed, and then 301 redirect, so google knows that the redirect was relevant.

Yes, very similar niche. We're talking about going from cannabis (old domain) to kratom (new domain) so despite it not being the same herb, it's still in the 'legal narcotic' category. No penalty on the old domain, so hmmmm.... I think I might go for it. Thanks for the info.

Let it index for some time and then redirect to domain.com/old-domain folder. Do not redirect the expired domain to the home page of another domain.

You can restore it and let it be there for a while, then create a new homepage saying that you are moving to a new domain, linking to it.

Inner pages redirect to homepage if they have backlinks…

Yes, the redirect will work if the domain is clean and relevant to the topic. If the old domain is still ranking for the focused keywords, you can still use it instead of redirecting it to the new one I think.
