I get very little time to play these days but I always get to spend a few hours on a Tuesday with a good friend playing some games. I figured I would see what other people are playing and see if there is anything good out there these days.

Recently we have been playing Earth Defence Force 6 (Japanese version) as it has couch coop and we've been playing the series for what feels like decades now. For me it is about my favourite game ever.

So what are you guys playing these days?

Not many games these days. They’re just not fun anymore. A lot of people I played games with feel the same way. “Games just aren’t fun anymore” is probably the most mentioned phrase in some of our group chats from 2015.

I feel the same bun.

And of course not having much time to play games anymore unless you count the game she played with my emotions /s :D.

League of Legends, I don't play much, only arams games, some time ago I used to play competitive games, now it's a bit boring.

Games haven't changed as much as people think. This is more just because we have an ageing gaming population.

You won't find 12-20 year olds having his sentiment. It's mostly people who have been gaming for a long time. Especially the 30+ generation like myself who have become more bored.

You can argue this, and games are different these days with generally weaker gameplay, but I think if you took modern games and gave them to us years ago, we would have had plenty of fun.

The original World of Warcraft for example.. I had so much fun playing it. But was it really that good? Or was it just because I was younger, and it was new.

If the first version was like current retail, would I really not have enjoyed it? I doubt it.. I'd probably have enjoyed it more.

We usually just label things good from a time in our life when we were naturally predisposed to like something more.

For me, the Internet of the 90s was the best. Was it objectively? lol. Definitely not, but it was the feelings/emotions from the time that make it that way.

And the thing is..

You're talking about your group chats from 2015. lol.. In the early 2000's we were already talking about how gaming had become complete shit. The guys I was gaming with in the 90's found the mid 2000 games a pile of steaming garbage.

The main difference now is the groups get bigger and communication is more vast. There were more people gaming in 2005-2015 than 1995-2005, so there's more people to comment on how gaming has gone downhill.

I feel the same way about the big games that everyone is playing these days. I find there is way too much story (I have very little time and want to game not watch) and busy work. I like to play games from smaller and indie devs, I find they tend to have more charm and quirky features that the bigger studios don't like to mess about with.

Splishsplash could be right as well though. It may not be gaming that has changed, it could just be us that have changed. Nah, it's the games.

Playing games during the week is awesome! Earth Defense Force 6 seems super cool, especially when playing with a friend on the same couch. Being a fan of EDF for years shows true commitment. Personally I am also pressed for time.
Have you seen any other interesting games while checking out new releases?

find old PS3 covered in dirt
clean it up like a boss
decide to play GTA V, CoD, and some other games
get bored after 20 mins
put PS3 back in storage
turn on TV
start watching political news
surprisingly more interesting than games
political drama is more entertaining than video games

Not many to be honest. All focus is on furthering my career and obviously at the end of the day making more $$$ haha. Tried downloading GTA V on PC for old times sake played it for 10 minutes and shut it off. I think the only joy I get when I (rarely) play is throwing on some old school Halo 2 for nostalgia sake :)

That is a good one, I was "decent" as a kid but haven't played much as an adult. I do enjoy a good game though.

Ooff, that is a true sign of getting old. Sadly I agree with you on that last point mate. We had an election here last week, it's been proper kicking off lol. Nothing has changed since the election though and doesn't look like a great deal is going to change for a bit at least.

Politics can be fun to watch but infuriating to be a part of. I get too involved at times.

Playing League of Legends competitively for 2+ years ruined gaming for me entirely. Well that, and the fact that I don't have time anymore; feels a bit like waste of time nowadays for me.

I don't think I have even touched any games for years now.

Yeah I get the feeling of burn out on games. As a programmer I sometimes start to feel like I am just manipulating numbers on a screen and lose interest in it.

EDF holds my attention mainly because I get to play with my bud. English version of EDF 6 comes out in a couple of weeks so we get to start over being able to actually read what everything is saying.

Fortnite save the world and I'm playing again Destiny 2 my 2 favorite games
I used to play borderlands, Destiny always seemed like serious Borderlands. I played a little bit of Fortnite, was fun.

Helldivers is pretty good. If you're more into story mode gaming, I'd recommend you try The Witcher, Cyberpunk, God of War, and Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West.

At the moment, I'm playing Dota and Valorant, but it's becoming a bit tedious. I'm only visiting Dota 2 because of my friends.
