Recently my PC decided that it no longer had an interest in charging and I was in a place where I did not have the opportunity to get it fixed, BUT, I had a back up brand new one in the event that sort of thing happened.

Now, most of us do not have a new PC sitting around just in case but I'm fortunate to have the few extra dollars to be able to do that.

This new one had Edge as the default browser, and I'm sure there is a deal with Microsoft to make it the default in their new machines, and I let it play out as, at the very least, I'd get a perspective on what those that used Edge dealt with.

I've used Chrome as my browser for ages so this was different for me.

I'm kind of digging it as it is clean and easy, has the extensions I used in Chrome and the navigation is the same.

There are some quirks in it with the main one being Bing is the default search engine. At one time I was a fan of ranking in Bing as I thought it was going to rival Google in terms of quality of searches. Now, I know Google is not as good as it has been as it is seems to promote more commercial sites over information sites but they have to feed the shareholders so I get it.

Bing just plain sucks and should they continue down their current path to the bottom of the lake, it will be the laughing stock of anyone who knows of alternatives.

Their results are like weak coffee and they way they operate is that if you click on a result it opens a new window. I have enough windows open as it stands and I don't want to close 2 windows just because Bing is lacking in IQ points.

They do have a cool feature where you can get the results in a sidebar as a choice but the search results still need a major engine haul as well as a new transmission and a pair of new axels as well and extensive body work.

A new laptop comes with plenty of bloatware which I eliminate with my shotgun, but this is one aspect I think is good but could use an improvement and I don't mind them making it their default.

Anyone else using Edge and think that the computer companies are selling out just to put a few bucks in their pocket as opposed to providing a quality product initially?

I've used Chrome as my browser for ages so this was different for me.

I stopped any interaction with Chrome years ago. At least on the new laptops and desktops (I still have it on the old machines).

Edge is one of my most used (Firefox and Brave being the main$). Even that, I still type that "g" in the tab, when I have something to search on the internet.

On the other hand, Bing improved a lot in the last years. But still not enough.

That has been from day one, as I have had Netscape and a lot since 1999. I use Brave now, but I know some browsers are better [maybe][kind of] like Chromium, but I am not an expert.

I can't see a second type of search engine even though people have tried ahrefs YEP or Bing, or the next thing people want to invest in as most will "google it'.

There is money in a voice-activated search engine where you have a headset and can speak what you want to search, but then again, Google will have that or will have it.

I have two laptops, one from 2012 and 2017, and the older one works better with Mozilla, funny enough. I do use G, though, as nothing I have seen so far can compare, but I hope someone will take on the giant and win one day. I always love the underdog story.

Maybe Microsoft has a deal with Google, so people install Chrome after bad experiences with Explorer and assumptions Edge is bad.

I think if we use Edge, we are seen as Edge users on the internet and it actually might matter on some websites in some cases.
You'll be seen as more unique as less people use Edge in general than other browsers.

Not that any normal user should care about that, but that's a thought a marketer working with software can have.

I'm not sure about this but visual search features in Chrome are somehow broken for me since some time (think couple years) and maybe Edge would do better in that area.

And if those features are there in Chrome, they're usually hard to find and context menu on right click doesn't reveal them. They are moving these features every few years from one place to another. I don't seem to arrange enough willpower to search in 100 places for that.

Chrome seems like a very basic browser these days. I've been thinking of switching to Mozilla, but that browser is really basic too, although more customizable in my opinion.

Edge and Opera are more modern I think.

I used it for some time being honest at the begining feels weird then good and then sucks don't know why but feel like there are days it works fast doesn't matter how many tabs are opne other days sucks I don't know if it was me or maybe a bad update I still using it because it really feels good for what I always use it feels like bing can do the job and the integration of the results and videos is weird and sometimes I don't understand it, and that anoying AI if you miss click or move you open copilot on the web browser giving you what I feel a useless response to your search, but feels good and bad at the same time is like a second browser to search a few things besides your main browser that you use to work every day.

I just use default, which is firefox on linux... I used opera on and off as well, it has cool functionality and is more customizable but there are some problems with it so I'm never able to switch to it completely

I recently stated using MSN for news and playing around with edge too as they’re Microsoft products. What I liked was the the new theme generator did you try it? I feel The UI can change and with all the AI stuff they been getting won’t be surprised if they take some market share from google

I am using EDGE for the last 3 years. Chrome and Firefox were literally eating all my 16 GB RAM and decided to move to EDGE, Its all fine but you cant have all the available extensions in Chrome!

Now I am using both EDGE (for personal banking and others) and Chrome (Fully for official purpose) to manage the CPU and RAM performance.!.

Yes, people should consider EDGE and Microsoft can really make it better than Chrome and Firefox!

Google had competitors when it was new in the market. So, they pushed it as the fastest search engine and it worked. They used to display search results with a tag like "in 0.3 seconds". It worked during slow internet days and we used to open Google to check if internet was working. This eventually made Google as home page as we instantly know if internet is working.

Bing must not become another Google but come up with features that are not available in others. This will at least generate curiosity. Just pushing Edge through Windows OS, and Bing through Edge looks like a bloatware campaign. They should make users to search for Edge on Google Chrome and install it.

I like the alternative thought process... you should be a paid consultant for Bing as they are heading down the same old same old road with a twist that is not effective.

I feel the same! Edge used to be awful but I tried it just for the fun of it and it's so much better imo than it used to be however you must use Google. Even duck duck go seems better than bing to me.

I think that Bing, at least these days, is aimed at users that are less tech savvy, not even enough to change their default search engine. It fits having the results opening in new tabs.
At this stage, I think the the only thing left for Bing to do (especially after integrating AI on search didn't help their marketshare) is to play to their strength.

I didn't find Edge too bad, I occasionally even use it on my PC, in the same way I sometimes use Safari on Mac even though it's not my go-to browser.

Alright guys, I did import bookmarks to Microsoft Edge.

What was revealed to me is some micro details were annoying like worse fonts quality or general processing of visuals.

There's also a little bit lagging scroll but that can be probably fixed with some tweaks in settings.

So that's my first experience with it. I like easy access to AI features, but unfortunately they are based on dumber version of things.

Search I of course set to "filtered google" which is basically that when I enter something into a searchbar it adds a long list of "-site site.com" like Reddit and Twitter and all the stuff that steals time.

As to what bing could do is transform their idea of a search engine and make it more user friendly than Google. Cause google did everything to kill the search experience.

But instead of working as a consultant, you can create own search engine that uses it's own models and even human curation of websites, then promote it and maybe even charge money for premium things. Probably would be a nice engineering of systems exercise.

I mean, all I need right now is just smart aggregation of sites and comprehensive resources that provide value with nice explanations. That's what learning is all about. Normal search engines are spammed with really irrelevant information and they don't go beyond surface level. It's not what we want I think.

We need to be aware of not only random sites, but also be shown books that are in public domain for free. We also need separation of AI from human written content. Without it, we will destroy the internet. And we will probably have zero readers and people who can actually understand what good literature is about.

Yandex search engine is pretty good, its like old school Google during the "wild west" days of the internet. Best search engine for those sailing the seas with a black flag.

How much sleep did I get? Does anyone else not know that Edge is a Microsoft product? It is really quality, but there are many buts, to describe them with one word Google
