Google March 2024 Core Update Released: bigger than before!

Yes, only Google will be left to give answers invented by its AI. We should switch all our users to other search engines. Google is a spy, you just have to make it clear to users

The next one is believe to happen on May 2024, probably 5th May. Google has announced that the update will takedown parasite SEOs (i.e: sponsored content, spam sites, parasite pages, etc).

However, as many of us here and elsewhere knows, it is probably overhyped and overpromised BS. Since 2022, Google updates have continued to be disappointing and all bark but no bite.
yeah... probably even more exposure for reddit, quora, forbes and other crap

Correct, update is finished.

My experiments have all failed. No recovery of any site.

But moving forwards we should now be able to expect less search volatility.

Fortunately, may 2024 update is just around the corner ;-)

Now seriously - absolutely no recovery of my sites. Main site droped from 6-7000 daily visitors to below 2k, replaced with reddit, quora, weak/ugly web shops etc.

It's been very interesting listening to non internet marketers talk about Google recently. I've been in this game for 10 years now and never had normies complain about Google search results before.

I've even had a family member switch to Bing and claims they are much happier and can actually find what they're looking for now.

Everyone is complaining about the same thing - they have to scroll past a whole page of ads before getting to the results, and then have to scroll down 2 or 3 pages, in which they open up multiple tabs of different sites, just to hope one of those sites has what they're looking for. This is now normal peoples standard search routine when using Google?!

Interestingly, we've had more sales this month from sites that are nowhere near the top 3, than we've ever had before. Could this be due to changing user behavior, as now they are more used to scrolling through man results? It's an interesting thought.

I'm in the tourism niche and the results now are a joke. Search for a particular attraction and you'll get the standard TripAdvisor, local gov website, etc (to be expected), but now you've got reddit threads of people complaining their pizza was cold, or Quora posts 'how to treat an injured knee' just because somewhere in posts a user mentions the attraction, or single page dead spam websites from 2022 that haven't been updated. Plus now that a single website can appear more than once in the same search results, you have to scroll and scroll to reach something borderline related. I can't speak for other niches, but this one is now utter garbage.

I think I'm going to join my family member and use Bing as my personal default search engine.

Moving forwards, I can say that I am so disheartened by Google now, that we are not bothering. We will continue making great sites, with great content and providing value. If Google ranks us, so be it. But we aren't playing their game. We always have Bing (market share increasing), social media and our email lists - which fortunately is enough to see us through difficult times.

how about continuing the expired domain niche and content? will that also consider as spam too?

Google caters to high authority above topical relevancy. Authority sites have an edge that the smaller sites have a very hard time fighting for a seat at the table even with far more relevant information.
So these issues they are “fixing” were created due to their own algorithms in the first place.

On friday about 300 suburb pages of one of my clients vanished into thin air, they where all ranking on page one of there desired keyword and on friday after google crawled the site 300 of them just poof. No penalty is showing one the and we have been ranking in page one for those keywords for over 10 years now.... last year we had updates the content with ai generated, human rewritten content.

Do you believe this is due to the march update? All of our competitors are still ranking on the keywords just as they have for years.. only us....

Does anyone know a fix? Do I need to rewrite all pages again with 100% human written content?

Can I test this on just a few pages? or will the site still be flagged as "non helpful" as I see some people mention on this thread...

Google is exhausting :( Bring the old days back!

Anyone done a 301 redirect to try recover? If so, what type of penalty did you have? ( Algorithm, Manual Action penalty)

Wont the 301 just pass the penalty through to new domain? and it is algorithm penalties so does not even show up in GSC

301 does not work. You then have 2 domains that are dead, not just 1.

The upshot is that it's not clear for what reasons the sites have been downgraded so much. I have a question, is it worth moving the texts to a new domain? Tk on these texts was spent a lot of money, and the reason for pessimization is not clear! Has anyone tried to do this?
