I have started my Adult Tube project 2 weeks ago and (even it sounds unbelievable) the server/software/content costs are NOT the primary problem.

It is getting visitors.

Just like the mainstream niches, the whole online adult niche is heavily monopolized these days. 20 years ago the TGPs and MGPs made it pretty easy to get into the scene with their traffic trading scripts... Today, there is no traffic trading at all, so it's almost impossible to get new traffic. So you are forced to buy traffic, but with a bot-rate of at least 70% it is a heavy money waster as well.
