Power of a good backlink

The one that caused the huge jump for me was actually a comment at an authority site where you have to register. These are places where you cannot leave a generic comment. You have to say something that sounds useful and complements the rest of the blog.

I have had several rejected but the few that have stuck have provided me with good results. I am guessing that a lot of people give up on commenting after they see "Your comment is awaiting moderation" message. The probability of it sticking is low but you should not stop.

If you do a 100, you might just get 5 or so depending on what niche you are in but if you had searched for those pages well and have good relevancy to your site, those 5 comments can impact your ranking much more than what several hundred comments at random pages will do.

Ramsweb can you share what type of links these are in general? are they comments? forums, profile?? I am guessing it is one of these types

I didn't expect that 1 backlink can change the SERPs of you site. So maybe if you use Angela packets which has many high PR sites, you can boost your rankings immediately as long as you do it naturally.

I use that technique, its good for a quick jump in rankings but the site giving the link will drop instantly.

I use those type of backlinks as well. When you have a mix of backlinks like comments, articles, profile links etc, I think you see more love from Google. But one great backlink can definitely give your site a big boost. They are hard to get but I would not mind spending a day or even a couple of days trying to find a gem.

Profile links are good but there is no guarantee that they will stick. I would say that a lot of profile links stay alive until the website does a moderation. It could come in 2 days or it could come in 6 months but they will probably take your link out when you get to your profile.

Trying to rank your website for the long term with just profile links will not be a good idea. It is good for short term. I have read a lot of people do monthly xrumer profile blasts on their website to keep their rankings constant as they expect a lot of their profile backlinks to get deleted.

Some recent article marketing thinking goes that if you write articles for the top 4-5 directories with do-follow tags that link to your site article, and in turn create ghost blogs that have spun versions of the article pointing to those same top directory articles, it creates a lasting higher PR backlink situation for your site. Keep the PR of the relevant backlinks high, and the SERP of the linked-to site also must improve and stay improved.

Would you care to share the easy method to get Dmoz and Yahoo Directory links? From what I know, they are pretty difficult to get unless your site is very popular already.

If you researched the keywords extensivly... you could very well take these kinds of sites at the very least... the bottom %20 of their visitors.

Lyric sites... yes there are a ton of them... if you want to make some cash though you need to really get down and dirty and see what lyrics people are searching for... Also in this field... it would help to check the top 50 every week and those that are missing from you site... Well Copy them at the very least. Just make sure you put a decent optimized paragraph of 200 words before each song... IE the variations of keywords ppl are searching for.

lol sounds like a ton of work after I wrote it... To be honest... thats the kind of shit that its going to need to work out.

And sometimes its worth it just to sell the domain and wash your hands of it.

Links from yahoo you can buy for an year and get PR5 to PR6 very easily. Dmoz is very tough since they don't consider new website or poor content websites. However, if you know any editor personally, then it would be much easier to get a position in Dmoz.

I don't know any personal editors at DMOZ but I have heard that you can submit your site once it gets in the top 10 for the keyword you are targeting. That way, it has a much better chance of approval.

Ranking in the top 10 or not, the site has to be of quality content for them to list in their directory.

This is the first time I have heard that a Yahoo directory link can give you a PR5 to PR6 Page instantly. That sounds like a lot. I wonder if anyone else can clarify on this.

Yes, this is something that I have learned a long time ago. If you know what you are doing it is easy. You must be smart and think outside the box sometimes.

That was just a suggestion for ppl with deep pockets who want relavant links fast. I have heard other people claim success by doing this. I personally have not.

I don't do that many paid links and am turning away from them b/c i am not super rich.

There are also pitfalls in doing this, like never email from your domain asking to buy a link i have heard horror stories of such emails being reported to google, then G looks at it and says ah hah this guy is soliciting and buy links lets bitch slap him. So i guess if you do this make sure u know what u are doing and can afford to spend the cash.

I recently got just one authority PR6 backlink from a very relevant site (The PR was for the actual page where the backlink was) and my site jumped from 130 to 29!!! I never knew high quality backlinks had such power. Has anyone else experienced jumps like this.

I know this was due to just this backlink as I haven't been doing a lot of backlinking lately. I tracked the indexing of this particular link to see the results and boy was I pleasantly surprised. Has anyone else had an experience such as this?

Whatever reason Google has ranked you, it's not your backlinks.

You currently have 7, and they're not very good ones e.g. stat sites.

Sure up the numbers or I predict that you are facing a serious drop in the near future.

Woops...my site just went from 8 to 64...not sure what is going on. Maybe it is the dance. There were 2.2 million results before and now there are only 1.9 Million. Also, one reputed site is not even showing up in the rankings any more. Anyone reading this, are these characteristics of a google dance???

I hope it is the dance as my good backlink has not been deleted yet. I wonder what made it to fall!

Since this post about 20 days ago, I have fallen to 70. So much for Google love. I recently got two PR6 do follow links that were highly relevant to my site and there was absolutely no movement in the SERP's. I think Google has sort of put me on hold where it is not going to change my rank for now. Don't know why this is but it is pretty frustrating.
