Power of a good backlink

Hi there guys

I recently got just one authority PR6 backlink from a very relevant site (The PR was for the actual page where the backlink was) and my site jumped from 130 to 29!!! I never knew high quality backlinks had such power. Has anyone else experienced jumps like this.

I know this was due to just this backlink as I haven't been doing a lot of backlinking lately. I tracked the indexing of this particular link to see the results and boy was I pleasantly surprised. Has anyone else had an experience such as this?

hmmm..no responses at all eh..that was a little unexpected. :)
 
I've never had this happen to me, I would love for it to happen though.

I'm starting to do more White Hat SEO (if such a thing exists) and have always wondered how one can get a "relevant" site to link back to them. Still learning though.
 
I'm thinking of giving my new WH site a link from one of my PR4 websites that doesn't get any traffic but has a decent PR. It is on the same server but I'm sure the PR is worth something.

Yes, a real high PR backlink from a relevant, high quality authority site can give your site a nice boost in the rankings.
 
Hi again,

I found another good backlink from a related site. It took me about 6 hours to find this but I think it was well worth it. Jumped from 29 to 12 just with this one backlink.

Searching for a good page to get a backlink from is a very tedious and frustrating process but the results it can produce are just amazing. I think people should give more and more of an effort to manual high quality backlinking as the effort is very well rewarded.

You're talking to the "Give it to me NOW!!" generation. They live off RedBull and Twinkies for breakfast lunch and dinner, spend more time in front of a screen than in the real world, don't know how to communicate with human beings, don't want to work hard for anything and want to get paid for not doing anything at all.

Do you expect your wise piece of advice to really penetrate more than 5% of those hard headed knuckle heads? :p HAHA

Backlinks from related authority sites are the best you can get. However, there are other ways.

Getting links from non-related power sites still increases your rank significantly. You just need a lot more links. Luckily, if you aren't limited by searching only for related sites, you can get a lot more links built in a much shorter time.
 
Thanks Micallef, I do those as well but have just found this to be extremely satisfying. I post in unrelated authority sites every chance I get and they have helped in the ranking as well. But like you said, you need a lot more than related backlinks to make an impact.

just because it's a pr7 doesn't mean it's magic and will boost your rank. i've learned this the hard way. link to sites in your niche...more specifically PAGES that have the SAME KEYWORDS as yours. Hint hint. That's all the tips I'm giving out today. ;)
 
It will come back. It is the dance. There is no way you would get penalized like that for a good link. Just give it a couple of days. I once had a site that I sent good links to go to 440 after it was at 30. It then came back and settled at 7.

Don't panic. Just give it a couple of days and keep building links.

I use that technique, its good for a quick jump in rankings but the site giving the link will drop instantly.

Trade off.

When you are hungry you need to eat, but what happens if you eat too much?

Site link is too strong if your site is still young. Especially it's pr7. Generally you can imagine thousands of pages in a pr7 site, how strong is that?
 
Ramsweb can you share what type of links these are in general? are they comments? forums, profile?? I am guessing it is one of these types
 
I think relevant links can give much more boost than just high pr irrelevant links and probably it's a good way to mix them all as it's a more natural way of link building.
 
Backlinks are the key guys. I've had many sites jump to page one just because of a few good relevant backlinks.
