Hostgator suspended my ACC for High CPU usage, should I go for a dedicated server

I have installed few plugins like post thumbnails, feedjit, statpress,wp cumulus etc.
But yesterday I submitted my site to 3500directories using an automatic Directory submitter(not sure that may be the problem).
Yes I disabled my post thumbnails plugin, but as I am using Video elements theme,my site wont work without post thumbnails.
They told me to disable post thumbnail plugin,I did,but however that didnt solve the issue either. My CPU usage overload occurs during certain peak hours only and that too all of a sudden in a rush.
I checked the site
Code:
http://empire-hosting.net/
Can you suggest me which plan should I use for this hosting plan?
I just want to host one site and my chief problem is traffic overload during certain peak hours.Sometimes all of a sudden a sudden surge in the traffic will come during certain hours and that may cause High CPU overload.
Can you explain to me a brief difference between Dedicated server and a VPS,that'll help too.
And one more thing-I am mainly getting my traffic from youtube and other means not through Search engines. But also get few traffic from search engines too.
Thanks.

Just call them and ask for Dale at this number 801-244-7266. Tell him what your situation is in detail then go from there.

Wordpress CPU load is mainly caused by plugins! Visit your stat page and see which plugin file is over visited. Update your wordpress version to the latest as well as all the plugins. Disable and delete unecessary plugins. If you have statpress plugin installed, please disable it.

Hello,

recommend the http://www.linode.com/ with Linode 540 plan, I think it will run well. My friends used the 360 plan and his site was more than 10K vistors and nearly 100K pv, but his site was forums.

Check out http://www.eapps.com I have their $90 a month plan, hosting about 50 sites.. it's expensive compared to other hosts, but they are geared towards the more "serious" sites, not your typical informational site. I'd recommend starting with a cheaper plan, and upgrading as necessary. All VPS, full root control, etc.

Also as mentioned, WP pretty much sucks.. adding plugins make it worse. Find a host that has cache, and optimize your install more.

Dedicated server and a VPS
They are "basically" the same thing.

Typically a hosting plan will be on a shared server. This means that your account and files are all just inside a folder inside the server, along with all of the other users within that server. This means that you can have 500 users in the same server, so if user X has a crappy site, or is being DDOS'd, etc.. its going to affect everyone else on that server. Same with CPU and RAM usage... every user has to share the resources of that server. So everyone has to share say, 8gb or ram, which means every user only gets XXXmb max to utilize.

A dedicated server is a server, or an entire harddrive/computer that is set up with only 1 user. This means that the 1 user gets FULL access to all the resources. If the user has 1 site on it, or 100 sites, they get the resources all to themselves. Typically a dedicated server will only have 1 or a few sites on it.. and will usually be a very high resource intensive site, like video encoding, or huge sites like social media type sites.

A VPS (virtual private server) is a basically a dedicated server in a shared server setup. Usually you will only have a limited amount of users in each server, but each users would be constrained to their own set of everything (disk space, resources, etc). The user will also be able to get full root access because whatever they do can't affect the other users.

Think of a dedicated server as your home pc, where you have your main user account. Now a VPS will be like if you installed a virtual pc program like VMmware on your computer, and in that you run 10 different operating systems, where each OS has full control of whatever it is doing.

Hope that explains it

Really? I run about 3 Wordpress blogs + a forum on my HG Baby plan, combined they get about 4k visitors on a daily basis and I'm only using 0.1% - 1% CPU at any given time.

And that's without the Supercache plugin.

Oh and

VPS = Shared hosting with root access, only with less users on one server compared to regular Shared hosting.
Dedicated server = One server entirely for yourself.

My site got overloaded again, they told its post thumbnail problem.I disabled it few days before, but the same problem happened again.I disabled all the plugins.
Can someone suggest me some clean basic low CPU usage word press theme which may save my site for today?
And if I redirect my domain to another blogspot address,do you think I can reclaim my site back after changing servers?

When you go into your cpanel, What is the load stats?
How do you check my load stats.I can see my main sites stats(but my site where I am getting traffic is not my main site)
CPU Usage
0.3%
Memory usage 0.1%
Disk Space Usage
124.35MB
Monthly Transfer
11198.34MB
Dont know how to check the site which I am getting traffic in my hostgator menu.
They are also asking for my home IP address, the hostgator. Can someone tell me why would they be needing that?

It's probably not your theme. It's probably WP itself. Have you cleaned up your database at all?

I have a high traffic wordpress blog on host gator that got suspended for high CPU also. I'm switched to http://linode.com and am very happy with them. You have to install everything (besides the OS) yourself, though. As in web server, MySQL, etc. So if you don't know linux, I wouldn't suggest going with them.

Yes, Linode was one of the best vps company.

I had this problem with one of my sites with them too a month or two ago. They told/suggested I install wp-super cache (even though I had a cache plugin already installed) and db cache reloaded in addition to removing some unneeded plugins. I did per their instructions and had the site back up within minutes and haven't had a problem since.

But you say you stripped your plugins and are still having the problem? The notes you posted and comments seem to be related also to your theme; have you played around with a new look too? I don't think I can get my head around this at the moment (a bit....in space tonight--it's a saturday =P) either...you have stats for a main site...and the site that gets traffic is hosted on the same acct then....but you don't have the stats for that site? ....:/

Personally, I would not get a dedicated server with Hostgator (over priced), however their VPS servers are priced pretty good, and perform well. They also do not have any CPU limits, plus you can tweak your SQL server as needed.
