It is not completely dead but almost. It has been dying for years now and we are at the final stages. You want to adapt? Sure... go ahead... try to out rank reddit, quora, forbes, amazon, youtube, PAA, Google Q/A, Google Ads etc... good luck!

People will always search for plumbers, dentists, etc. The SERP and map pack are still the primary place to aim for.

SEO is only viable if you are doing it for a real company, but this is only for now it will likely go away in the near future. There isn't much time left for SEO tbh, I think SERPs as we know it, will change in the next couple of years as AI gets better. If you're thinking of running an affiliate blog, that is a thing of the past unless you own a website that is an absolute authority in its niche.

If you have some edge like real business, you're welcome. Even a pizzeria that is small will benefit from local SEO.

Otherwise, for affiliate stuff do social media. Much, much easier on nerves. You wouldn't believe. Even your mother can sell on Facebook. On Google? Forget it.

Hi, I've been out of the SEO game for a few years now.

I want to hop back in as I really enjoyed it back in the day. I see posts claiming that SEO is dead, this and that.

But I would like a response to as if it is still worth getting into and freelancing for it.

I don't care about the money, I would just like to know with these new Google updates, SEO is still worth it for local-based companies.

You're talking out of your ass. My last affiliate site was consistently pulling $8 - 10K/mo. I have consulted and worked for brokers that sold $1M+ affiliate only businesses. Affiliate SEO is a BIG market, but with recent updates it is only limited to big companies (I worked for one of those too back in the day).

I don't have time to promote shit on social media, dude I am not looking for $5 sales LOL. Maybe this is good money where you come from, but it is not for me.

SEO as it stands is only viable for real businesses with products/services, Local or not local. Again, I know that because I am consulting with a couple right now.

Sure, sure plumbers? When I search for best plumber near me I get all those big brands / directories... trustpilot, checkatrade, ratedpeople.... I don't see ANY website of a local plumber. Google maps - Google is pushing now a lot of ads there too. SEO is dying for local searches too.

In my point of view, SEO is worth to kick start your learning again. By learn the latest Google updates and techniques , you can do the SEO in a efficient way which is required for every business .

Especially, Local SEO is a better key to unlock the vast growth for local businesses .

The times of sitting in your underwear in front of the computer and having to answer maybe 3 emails per month (and never to end customers, only people at the companies you send traffic and leads to) appear to be gone for good.

If I were to begin:

- Have at least a few thousand $ funds
- Have a good business model that is not just 100% affiliate
- Be ready to expose yourself much more, including videos
- Try Non-SEO marketing in order to find good places to generate leads. E.g. pushing your brand through local radio
- If you stay rather close to "SEO-only", then have 2-3 projects (but not too many) simultaneously, totally separated from each other, for diversification

Also (added):
- Incorporate. It sucks due to the costs but it gives you 1) protection and 2) better conversions as higher profile customers may have a look who exactly they are dealing with. This may be more an issue in, for instance, Germany than in the US, where people are generally more accepting towards small businesses.
- Choose a non generic domain name that is memorable and very brandable. BRAND.com instead of KEYWORD-KEYWORD.com or KEYWORD.com
- Focus on branding from the start, e.g. get more backlinks with your brand name,. The goal is to get people searching for your brand, or even your brand plus keyword "YOUR_BRAND keyword"

Study marketing. Not SEO and optimization. It's very easy to outsource site management and so on. Broader understanding will be of better use. But focus on one industry business wise.

Gone are the days of creating 1000 websites a year on random topics.

I believe there have been changes and updates to the search engines' algorithms of how they show results, doesn't mean SEO is dead. I believe ranking your website on top of Google searches for relevant keywords can still do wonders for your business. It's just that the strategies that worked a few years back don't work now, you just need to work on new strategies.

Are you people blind? Don't you see who dominates the ranking on almost every keyword... even the long tail keywords? Don't you see how google search looks vs how it was 10-15 years ago? SEO is not dead sure... just almost dead. There are only scraps left for a few. You can go ahead and fight for it but it is not worth it.
