Getting a web hosting in my own country to avoid potential DMCA

Hi, i read that some member mentioned that getting a local hosting provider might be beneficial to avoid DMCA. Although my plan is to stream short adult content and nothing illegal like CP or anything, it's still copyrighted, so avoiding as much trouble as possible would be ideal.

I'm from Malaysia, so i learn about shinjiru when looking for offshore hosting, which is also from Malaysia. So i wonder if it's a good idea to get their vps plan under shinjiru.com.my. That way my website would be technically hosted offshore. Or it's in fact a bad idea?

FWIW, I will also be getting a cdn storage server that serve my videos from different company.

It's okay if there are no local laws restricting you from posting adult content in your country.

shinjiru is a good host for adult hosting. You can combine it with Cloudflare CDN for better protection.

To be even more secure you can definitely try out other DMCA-ignored hosting sites that have offshore data centers outside of Malaysia.

Actually it depends upon the local laws, and I would always suggest you a professional web host over self hosting, as still with self hosting you can get DMCA complaints via your ISP (internet provider), as you will be using their IP address, so its better to host with a professional host in an offshore location where that type of content is legal, like Bulgaria, Switzerland etc.

Yeah sure try offshore DMCA ignored vps or shared hosting based upon your requirement as that will be the much safer option. You can use the cdn or cloud storage too but unless you are getting 10k live users there is really no need of that

u can google malaysians being fined thousands of dollars for just having adult content on their phone. imagine how many charges you get for running self hosted porn site.

Thanks for your advice. So dmca-free hosting only protects me against copyright right? By covering my tracks do you mean the ip address? I heard cloudflare does obfuscate it but since it's not ideal for dmca, what some good practice to hide my site origin?

if police want to find you they will. so many cases of high profile people running online crime orgs getting busted.
even vpn and protonmail is not safe. consider a news article from last month -- protonmail cooperated with spain police. vendor provided authorities with the recovery email of one of their users. it ended up being the users personal icloud. police made quick work of what to do next to arrest the person for their investigation.
do deep dive in opsec will help point you in what NOT to do. especially reading about people getting busted. e.g., do not put recovery email/phone on accounts you're using to break local laws that point directly to you lol. i would probably start researching how other Malaysians have been caught for similar charges.
for starters get a vpn. just find a leaked account online. sure you can buy with crypto. but authorities may ask the vendor "hey what's the crypto address of this person". then run a blockchain investigation to the funds and trace it back to your coinbase. then they ask coinbase "hey who is this account". and it's game over for you: your identity has been compromised.
so many big people busted. people who think they are really smart in security and hiding their footprints. ross ulbricht was busted in a library with his personal laptop lol. but porn reupload likely not that high on the list of priorities for Malaysian police. compared to say running crypto tumbler or drug market. either way this is one of those things where you're walking a tight rope with your freedom being in malaysia.

Thanks for the warning. I'll remember and take extra caution. I might start with registrar first. Do you think namecheap is ok for it? I have account with them and they do have this domain privacy protection. I have never used vpn before so i guess i'll have to figure it out, and billing is kinda of an issue as i read that ppl here using bitcoin for this but all i have is cc and paypal. Yeah that sounds alot to learn. If only registrar and hosting make these privacy issue much more easier.

stay away from namecheap lots of people have bad experience with them. they are quick to terminate your account when a dmca comes in as well. stick to namesilo.com

you already made fatal mistake if you were to proceed. you created your namecheap account without a vpn. authorities would ask namecheap "give me the IP used to register this account" and you are caught.

shouldn't contact them first regarding anything. just turn on vpn and sign up. link a payment method. and buy your domain.

mate you are breaking laws in your country. i can google right now a list of people arrested for running porn sites in malaysia, some facing 10 years in prison.
free vpn aren't really trusted for their privacy.
would be pretty sad if you're in court waiting to talk to a malaysian judge. thinking to yourself, if you only spent $5 extra for a real vpn you would not have gotten caught.
would it suffice? probably. you're dealing with a lot of possibilities that may or may not happen. more precautions you take, the safer you are.
