How to set up a proxy in your browser

any ideas on how to set up a raw socket connection to a proxy so that I can use across all my apps vice setting up individual connections via each app?

If the proxie's die so often is it better to use a software that gives / changes your IP ?
or Hide your IP ( I am not sure if I am using the right words here ) .I just need to open different accounts at forums or AC so I am just trying to work out what I need
Proxies OR IP Changing software

I tried to setup proxy in my firefox 3.0.17 BUT everytime I was caught. For example, I went to whatismyip and it says you have proxy server or suspected proxy or something like that detected. I also tried to visit some sites like facebook and they also did not open saying that your network policy does not allow to access this site. I tried to change the proxies 5-6 times and everytime I got the same result. (I already checked the proxies before setting up in my browser and they were working fine)

Can someone point me to right direction? Im unable to understand as what exactly Im doing wrong?

It seems to me as if NO proxies actually work with sites like Facebook, Myspace, Craigslist, Youtube etc etc... in fact MOST social networking sites don;t allow proxies so they are pretty much useless to me...

Whats the solution? I am trying to figure out how to visit those sites with proxies without being banned.. any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you want to learn more on FoxyProxy the developer's site has a lot of info free.
He also, offers paid proxy service.

No Affl
Thanks for the tip I am setting up FoxyProxy today.

According to his site "FoxyProxy is a set of proxy management tools for Firefox, Thunderbird, Seamonkey, and Songbird."
There are three verisons the most featured is $14.99

you can also refer Computer Networks by Kurose and Tanenbaum For this.

I think that I am doing something wrong. I'm trying to set up a proxy to hide myself from a forum that I was banned from. Not to make money on it, but because it has a wealth of info for me and my hobby (reef keeping) and I want to be able to participate. However, every time I add a proxy, I can't connect to any sites.

Here are the steps that I'm taking:
I'm using apekillape's method of Proxy Leeching By Hand found in this thread http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/proxies/23141-proxy-leeching-hand-because-fpl-stupid.html I go to the site's that he mentions and leech all the Socks proxies posted in the last 24hrs

Then I run them all through Charon and save only the good Socks 5. I here that 5's are best. None of the ones I've found have been anonymous. So, this might be my problem. For those of you that don't know about Charon http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...rty-guide-charon-free-good-proxy-checker.html

Now I'm trying to use the methods in this thread to add a proxy to my browser, but like I said above, every time I try one, I can't connect to any sites. I've tried over 50 different socks. So, my thinking is that I am doing something wrong. I run windows 7 and Firefox. When I'm in my connection setting, I click on Manual Proxy Configuration. This is where I'm confused. I have several boxes in which I can add my address and port. If you notice in the pic I included, I have a box for HTTP Proxy, a box for SSL Proxy, a box for FTP Proxy, a box for ........................
I've been adding the addresses to the box for HTTP Proxy. Is this right?? Or am I doing something else wrong???

Um. You're using Socks proxies but putting the IPs in to the HTTP box?

N

I should have mentioned that I tried the Socks Host box too, but had the same results.

OK, I got it to work. I guess that even though Charon said the Proxy list I had was good, they were actually bad. I got a new list of proxies and I'm able to connect. I was also able to rejoin the forum I was banned from. Of coarse with a new email acct, new username, and new password. However, when connected using a proxy, pages seem to load super slow. Heck, some pages don't even completely load. Is this normal when using a proxy, or is their something wrong with the proxies that I'm using????

Never used a proxy before, but I have a basic inquiry. If I set up a proxy for Chrome, can I simultaneously use my regular IP in Firefox while being on a proxy in Chrome. How about the same question, except can I simultaneously use multiple proxies on Chrome and 1 on Firefox. By multiple I mean "I could be on five proxies at once and doing something on all of them."

I have big plans with regards to evil, and I need to know how to maximize my carnage. Thanks. :)
