I used namecheap and I think (its been a few months since I regged a .co.uk) the privacy was free.

Ah - basically a very long time ago (5 years or so) when I first discovered the internets I bought some .co.uk domains from some guy on ebay (complete noob I was)
He transferred them to my account. Nominet require written confirmation of the transfer (I believe) so after this guy went AWOL I basically had control of the domains but no legal ownership. So since then, I have never bought a .co.uk![]()

Note, though, that for .co.uk the minimum registration period is 2 years, not 1, and it's slightly more expensive than .com/.net/.org.
