I wanted to share some exciting news from Etsy! In 2024, Etsy is rolling out updates to the onboarding process for new shops to ensure that Etsy remains a trusted and safe place to shop and do business.

Here are the key details:

Priority on Safety: Etsy's team is dedicated to ensuring a safe and trusted environment for all shoppers. With these updates, we aim to protect the vibrant marketplace and community we've built together.

Identity Verification: New shop owners will now undergo an enhanced identity check during the set-up process. This involves uploading a photo ID and taking a selfie for verification. Etsy has partnered with Persona, a certified third-party company known for its high security standards.

Shop Set-Up Fee 15$: To support enhanced security measures and verification processes, Etsy is introducing a new shop set-up fee. New shops may be required to pay a one-time fee of $15 before opening for business. This upfront investment helps ensure that new shops are committed to the Etsy community.

These changes will be implemented gradually over the next few months and will only affect newly created shops. Existing shops will not be impacted.

Question 1: As someone who has been selling on Etsy for the last 5 years, I've noticed many legitimate sellers discussing instances where Etsy suspended their shop upon sign-up without explanation. How do you think the introduction of face verification and the non-refundable sign-up fee can help sellers and provide them with safety?
   
   
   
2. Question 2: Let's say someone used David's documents and their shop got suspended. Now, after this policy update, if David tries to open a new shop, pays the fee, and passes face verification, will Etsy allow him to sell on Etsy or not?

What is there to be excited about? They'll be harvesting your data at even higher scale and add even more fees on top of the ridiculous amount of fees that they already have.

They have just invasion of accounts, especialy with AI content when people are creating multiple shops to sell AI images.

What is there to be excited about? They'll be harvesting your data at even higher scale and add even more fees on top of the ridiculous amount of fees that they already have.

Then they should find a good solution instead of punishing everybody with even higher fees.
I ve sold soy candles like 5 years ago on etsy, the fees were already like 10-15% and now they are even higher.

I think we may soon be required to upload ID and a facial scan in order to purchase a domain. They way these companies are going, asking for KYC for the simplest of services. I wonder how many really have the ability to verify the authenticity of passports. If a business is not mandated by a government to required KYC, how would they have access to a database to check? The cynic in me feels that this is less about security and more about data harvesting to create new revenue streams.

Happened to me, I have paid 13 euro and got suspended, even though the account is fully legitimate and my product is made by me, I appealed but received an automated reply
It's obviously a scam

Question, can you use Photoshop or AI to change letters/numbers/face in the passport? Let's say you use your passport as the template, change the details, do a fake person AI creator, slap it in the passport correctly, then make a face photo. Use AI to change your existing face to that of the fake one. Substitute the passport in the pic with the fake one. I need ideas guys. THEY CAN'T GET AWAY WITH THIS!!! (BB reference sorry I had to lol)

There should be some kind of way to really cheese the system and just get yourself approved somehow

talk to your card issuer/bank and make dispute, they'll give your money back, I got my money back from 3 of those banned accs
