They are not idiots yes some of the more ambitious workers will be moving on to do things for themselves however $10 a day is good pay in alot of countrys. I'm a recently returned army veteran and have been to many countries in the past few years. when I was in iraq we had different american francised stores run by LNO (Iraqi residents). Things like subway, seattle coffee and burger king. It was cheaper for the U.S to hire LNO than pay americans because if you work for the goverment that's considered combat pay plus no civial contractor goes to iraq for less than 90k a year. So these guys are flipping us burgers like it's the best thing in the world, giving the best customer service of any taco bell on the planet and do you know why? Because they had to be screened and hand picked for these jobs like applying for a corporate management job in america is. And the thing is from the one's I became friends with I found out that they make between $250-$500 a month. The lowest I heard was $225 and the guy had 3 kids and a wife and said he was doing fine. For some countrys making 3k-4k a year is considered wealthy. Now india on the other had I have not been to personally but I know from friends that there are place like what I just described and there are places where any schmuck can make a decent living working anywhere. Traveling the world and seeing different cultures gives you a better grasp/perspective on things and I can tell you that is someone is willing to work for me for $10 a day 8hr then I will let him do it. don't expect perfect work but expect it to be done. If they do a good job on a consistent basis then you will probably get to know them a little bit and get a feel for how they think about there pay. If they ask for a $2 a day raise after a certain amount of time then give it to them, they deserve to move up too and finding someone to provide good results consistently is hard, and if they have been then they deserve it. I'm starting to ramble so I'll stop now but long story short it's ok to hire someone for that cheap and you should not feel guilt for it, it's not like you force them to work for you, it's a mutual decision.
