Did I waste my time learning python?

Do you have plan on how you will get clients despite of the competition though? It is not a waste of time if you know how to get clients easily online especially if you don't want a corporate job

pyoton as i heard is the most complicated to learn so i dont think you wasted your time you can make a good money with it

If you think "Python" is the most complicated programming language to learn, then I think you haven't explored any other languages yet.

Or perhaps, maybe, you consider HTML and CSS as programming languages and compare these to Python. Lol

I have to say, I thought I have a good grip on python so far, yet I suck so much I have to outsource a job because I really can't finish it. NO CLUE HOW TO DO IT!

At least I am doing BHW a favour and posted it here in the forum. My ego is shattered now but I give up.

When I asked the question first I thought I maybe should have gone with something else, but I have moments of doubt and they pass. Part of the regular imposter syndrome.

On the other note: Yeah, I delivered it not long ago and it seems to be fine. It was such a monster task. Because I posted it here in the forum, trying to outsource it, I got quite a few replies but i have to say, none of what was delivered was really that great, I constantly got questions back, which showed me how no one really understood the project's aim or the steps that needed to be done or that I took in my code, and when I took time to explain it at length, they delivered unusable data due to errors in the process etc.

One guy's sample looking very promising, but as soon as I got the full file, it was clear, that he just edited the bit he showed me at first by hand and the code he wrote didn't do much of it. I never saw his code, becuase I never paid him, but the results were enough to say no.

Some were really lazy with the task, one guy even sent me my own results back, didn't change a single line, and said he's "done" with the task and if we can use "crypto or paypal" for payment.

I spent a lot of time explaining what was already explained in very deep detail in the files I sent (I even sent a flowchart and mock up for fucks sake lol).

I think, if that's my average competition, I am doing better than I thought.

Either way, after a while I sat down again and did it all myself anyway. I tried a little with chatgpt, but chatgpt just made it worse. Although, I have to say, because it was sooooooo bad and confused, it made me rethink my own process and syntax problems until I figured a way out. Instead of just trying to solve it all in one or two lines, I just wrote an extra 120 lines to clean up the bits that I couldn't get right away. Does this make me smart or lazy? I don't know. But! Problem solved!

For a while now I was slowly learning python more and more, but I think I might have been given false advice and I should have gone with javascript if I want to get into web development as a freelancer.

What do you think? Been on it for like 6 months now, kinda learned the basics and just start to look into django etc, but I am not sure if that is really that useful because now that I am more and more involved with this coding stuff, I see JS React pop up everywhere and I am not sure if I should just switch over.

My goal is just to pick up some projects on upwork once I am proficient enough. Don't want to land a corporate job, even if that pays better.

I have been dealing with software for a long time. python and js are both very powerful and useful languages. both can be used according to the place and conditions. if you are new to software, i recommend you to finish python. it is an easy language with syntax. python software will be faster to understand

I switched from python to javscript after about 3 months i would say python and js are very similar you wont have a hard time switching to js

I can tell you that learning Python is not a waste. Even if your competence is at a basic level, you can use it to earn loads of money if you know how to apply it

You never waste time when learning skill. The skill will be with you for lifetime. Even monetary value will be very high when you start getting clients for that skill work.

Well, the skill is coding, but python is just a language. It's like if I'd learn to code with cobol - I learn the skill, but the time is pretty much wasted. I thought it's the same in this case but apparently not
