Is Blogger with custom domain good from SEO perspective?

I understand blogger doesn't have as many options and flexibility that you get with WP, and there is also a risk of google removing your blog.

But apart from that and being a part of Google, does blogger have any advantage from SEO point of view? Or makes new difference? Or they don't rank well?

Blogger is good with few caveats --

1. Default templates don't offer much customization.
2. H1 tags are messed up in the default templates. Site title is H1 tag for all the posts instead of post title.

If you purchase premium templates your site speed will take a hit and passing core vitals will be difficult but not impossible.

Always good to check all details in the demo page of template you intend to use.

Biggest positive of using blogger is no hosting cost and you don't have to worry about any traffic spike as google servers can handle any amount of traffic.

You should simply ignore blogger. It won't rank good. How many blogspot blogs you have seen ranking in the top 10 for the majority of keywords in any niche?

I did an experiment in late 2017 and created two competing articles for the same keyword.

One site was powered by WordPress, a fairly new domain with no past history, and this particular article was going to be the first post made.

Another one was powered by Blogger. This too, is a new blog, with no past history whatsoever, and this particular article was going to be the first post made.

Published both articles same day, and within a week, guess what? my WordPress article ranked better than the Blogspot. It is easier for us to think that Google will favor Blogspot websites, as it is one of their products. But that's just a myth. Both are the same to Google.

Blogger is good for SEO, I did run some blogs on blogger and they ranked as well.

But blogger doesn't have an inherent SEO advantage, in fact WordPress could be argued to have more because of thr available of tools that make certain tasks easier.

A simple example is permalink structure, Blogger has a fixed structure that includes year and month, WordPress allows you to customize. There are lots of other features which we all know.

If your budget is tight for whatever reason and all you can spend money on is domain, then you can try Blogger. It's a good alternative but not the best for the purpose.

A tried a simple little experiment, type in alina habba (yes "The Habba"...) she has a wordpress(com) mini page with her name as subdomain.
All her other multiple domains (net,org,info...) popping up in the serps- but not the wordpress(com) page.

But when you type her name like this; alina habba wordpress, then the wordpress page is at the top in google.
You can try this with another personal brand who uses a free blogger subdomain page the result will be the same.

Try it with habba law, all their dsomain spopping up- but no wordpress, medium etc,etc...
But she has a wikipedia page when you have one then you will stay at the top in google first page, it's not easy to get in wikipedia.

The same with medium, the habba medium page not appears in the serp only when you type in her name+ medium.
What you see nowadays in google; always at the top on personal brands are XTwitter, FB, Instagram, Linkedin.
No blogger, no free wordpress, no medium, no vocal media, whatsoever....

It looks like google algo changed this twist to only showing IG,FB, X, Linkedin at the top in google.
Is it only me or do you have similar experience? I not see a lot of subdomains (from free platforms or from your own domain site) in google today.

Sometimes search.entireweb(com) gives you more results than google, here the habba medium articles showing up, the mini wordpress page not.
You need good queries to get deep accurate results, the google AI works like; "I know what is the best result for you" something like this, google research becomes more and more sophisticated.

Blogger has today good modern free html templates who not look amateurish.
But as I see myself in google when you search for brands, personal brands, free platforms with subdomain not showing up today, include medium !

Used to be a myth about Blogger ranking better because Google owned it. We all know it has been spammed too much over the years and it seems like Google has forgotten it to focus on bigger projects.

Yes, using Blogger with a custom domain can be good for SEO. It allows you to have a professional-looking domain, and Blogger provides basic SEO features. However, for more advanced SEO capabilities, some users may prefer other platforms like WordPress.

Normal (my theory) blogger with custom domain and have good high quality score content on it you should rank easy, when your keyword kd is not to high.
Blogger pages/ posts are in html right? Slim html pages/posts who loading blazing fast with high quality content on it, will rank fast in the serps.
When you use wordpress I think it's better make it the whole wp -static pages and post.

Make a test, use canva and create an html website with two pages and 15-20.000 words on it (example) then upload that thing to google cloud or Linode, then you will see how fast you get indexed and you get rank in the serp.
Note: only when you have high quality score content and a keyword which KD is not too high.

My theory is that you can rank with high KD keywords too where the big media guys ranking worldwide, for that your html pages need maybe 100-200.000 words on it (then upload to Linode or google cloud) -you have nothing to lose to make this test, then you can make your own observation and decisions. Doing this test for 2-3 months will cost your $15 on the low Linode vm.

Today with all the modern changes, modern google algo changes, changings come up fast, it's not bad to make small tests and own observations.
So then you will find the truth for yourself/ your niche, not what many people telling on forums like; blogger bnot ranks, wordpress(com) nort ranks blablablba....

Personally, my thoughts on it is not necessary.
Although the code of the theme does matter to a degree but if we talking about both themes being coded nicely & optimized.
It's all bits and pieces of code to google.

So in general these free tumblr, medium, twitter, blogspot subdomains will not rank good in google?
Then why use them? Ok then it's not for seo it's for the audience (traffic) they have on their platform, not for seo ranking.

I see Linkedin "parasite" rank well in google they have free subdomain but you can see the content only when you have a Linkedin account.
