Semrush vs google keyword planner? best for keyword research

My process usually includes both, but I find that Semrush and tools like that end up more as a value-add than anything truly shaping keyword planning and projection process.

It is because being able to see the keywords which competitors are ranking for or pursuing and getting access to the keyword magic tool which gives out tons of variations on the keyword and gives you other options to attack the search intent. Both are super valuable and worth the cost just for the amount of time saved.

Semrush. It provides a broader view of keyword metrics.

Both SEMrush and Google Keyword Planner have their strengths, and the choice depends on your specific needs:

  1. Google Keyword Planner:
    • Pros:
      • Free to use.
      • Directly integrated with Google Ads.
      • Provides data directly from Google, the largest search engine.
    • Cons:
      • Limited functionality compared to SEMrush.
      • More focused on paid advertising.
  2. SEMrush:
    • Pros:
      • Comprehensive keyword data.
      • Offers insights into competitors' strategies.
      • Extensive features beyond keyword research (site audit, backlink analysis, etc.).
    • Cons:
      • Paid tool, may not be ideal for small budgets.
      • Learning curve for beginners.

In my opinion, Semrush is better in term of deep insight and data you can get

Ahrefs is the easiest tool to manipulate ;) Never trust it.

Ahrefs is an excellent tool for SEO. Every metric can be manipulated in a way that benefits the user. It is one of the most trusted metrics in the industry, second only to GPR. Ahrefs' Domain Rating (DR) is one of the strongest predictors, and its accuracy is far superior to the rest.

Lol. Look at the number of search results for "increase DR" on seoclerks and fiverr - $5 and you get a DR50+ within days. Haven't seen such for Semrush.

If you're seeking for a new keyword to rank on Google SERPs you might choose Google Keywords Planner. If your business requires a full marketing suite the best option is to go with Semrush which is more beneficial for you.

To get the quantity of keywords, Google, but to get the quality of the keywords Semrush.

Hi, which one is more reliable in terms of keyword research in your opinions
As an SEO Expert, I have tried both tools, both are great tools, but most of the peoples in digital marketing industry prefer semrush.

In my opinion, i support SEMrush. It provides the best service for keyword research than compared to Google Keyword Planner.

Semrush gives you specific set of keywords relevant to your queries with a set of numbers and estimation, where as google keyword planner gives you result which might be useful for a basic research with approximate value like 1K-10K. Both the tools are good to use as per your SEO Needs
But if you have Google Ads campaign running, keyword planner gives you exact values, doesn't it?

No. There's the API that "feeds" both SEMRush and the Keyword Planner, whoever queries it lasts would present the most updated values. None of them queries it every time for every keyword.

Another aspect is the "broadening" algorithm, which in my opinion, is better at SEMRush.
