UPDATE: Got sidetracked negotiating a new contract with a copywriting client, but I've since picked a topic and created a course outline. Heavily leaning on my social proof for this topic, and going with a slightly different angle than other courses in the niche as well. Here we go!

I've also dragged some lamps into my room so I can get that #lighting XD

UPDATE: Outline is all done with plenty of detail too, plus I gathered some old work and social proof to help with selling the course in the early stages.

Since you'll all be able to find it quite easily from my name anyways, I'll just come out and say I'm making the course in the YT make money niche.

My key difference will be offering guaranteed consistent upfront income without the hassle of editing, automation software, or managing freelancers.

Now to make the graphics & docs before recording the damn thing

UPDATE: Half the course is recorded, my ratchet lighting setup worked pretty alright though its far from perfect.

Whatever, I'm getting this thing done. Gonna take a quick break to rest my voice then finish the job.

POST-CHRISTMAS UPDATE: Working on my lighting setup now, I just ordered a $40 ring light off Amazon which I'll pair with a small desk lamp for angled lighting.

I'll probably use garbage bags to block sunlight from my windows since I'm not about to buy new curtains lol

I'll get back to the course work once the new lamp arrives, maybe reshoot the earlier sections and work on some stronger outlines.

I'm also making some PDF templates using a combo of Canva and Designerr.

EDIT: Jackpot! I just found an old guide I wrote and posted on reddit way back in the day, which I honestly thought I had deleted long ago. This will make great content for the course!

UPDATE: So I didn't save the guide anywhere on my computer, and scraping the images from reddit to turn back into a PDF was a bitch-and-a-half.

At least it's done now, and I can use some other good stuff I found on reddit to add to the course for a bonus

EDIT: Between Canva and Designerr I have to say the latter takes the cake for PDF and long-form written guide content with all the format convertability, automations, and templates. Canva is still better for graphic design overall, and I don't like how damn pushy Designerr is with their upsells, but I still think they're better for this project.

I'm attaching the cover for the PDF guide which I'm redesigning, since the original was a (barf) google slide. Let me know if you think I overdid it with the text shadow.

I also made my name a hyperlink to my personal website (only works for embeds though), so hopefully that will help its SEO after the course launches and I can kill another bird with this stone

UPDATE: Just looked into some affiliate links I could add to the course in order to get more money on the side.

Since I'm teaching a side gig that's effectively just writing my options are limited to Grammarly, Upwork, ChatGPT, and any workspace or productivity software I used in the past (quite a few).

None of these have great affiliate marketing options though, so I'll probably just take the L rather than sell bullshit I never used personally.

Also planning to add a money-back guarantee and see if I can offer 100% course discount coupons or something.

I got an awesome 3-month trial for a subreddit scraper for free recently, and could put it to use DMing people in r/hireawriter or r/beermoney etc. with 100% discount course links to drum up reviews.

I'm one of those uber-skeptical people who takes "MaKe MoNeY OnLiNe" courses with a metric kilo of salt, and I want this course to be the kind of thing I would've bought back when I was starting my freelance journey. Idk if that's being perfectionist or not, but it feels like the right approach.

EDIT: Just had an idea for affiliate marketing: I'll include later sections on how to upsell clients and additional skills you can learn to make even more money, then include the software for those skills and upsells with affiliate links.

This works great because (1) only the people who already "made it" and have some money to spend will see the links, and (2) those people will be more willing to buy because they'll now know that my course works.

UPDATE: Been a hot minute since I posted an update, mainly because the rim light came late and it took FOREVER to fix an issue with my webcam automatically adjusting video brightness which ruined my video lighting.

I'll put up a video soon explaining how to fix the webcam issue first, since there's almost no up-to-date resource on how to do this and I don't want some other schmuck wasting hours of their life on this retarded Microsoft oversight
