Sam Altman fired from OpenAI

something tells me that microsoft is behind this, possibly they want to push company to become more profit oriented or something, wouldnt be too surprised if that was the case
From what i understood from various publications, microsoft only found out about it a few minutes after it happened. The rumor mill saying it was a conflict between the none-proffit origins and the for-proffit future. Supposedly more will quit. I assume the for proffit half won.

Exactly same thoughts

from what i know, microsoft gets like 50% of all openai profits, i dont think its possible for them not to know what is going on in there

Probably the free version will go away now and they'll gradually bump up the price to $50 a month.

Microsoft has no board seats in the organization that legally owns OpenAI. From what I understand Ilya orchestrated this to slow down the company's shipping of GPTs & GPT-5

They have a JV, not equity. Even the president of the board was blindsided.

From what I've heard might scrap private GPTs for ChatGPT users.

capitalism is starting to show its cracks....

many many times throughout the course of each day i encounter or see or hear of another big company that makes some absurd changes or useless features all in the name of extracting every possible penny out of absolutely everyone they can

sick of it

well i mean you cant blame them if that is the case, it was free for pretty long time

by free you mean:

1. free users increase userbase dramatically increasing overall valuation
2. free users help build and improve ai
3. free users are a data goldmine

and when theres already more capable alternatives to gpt 3.5 that are opensourced and free its a shame microsoft is so hurting for $ they need paywall it and make it retarded and useless

i can picture them:

1. splitting it up into different niches and charging more for things like code responses
2. putting absurd guard rails on it that make it basically useless
3. integrating it into windows and making their junk even more full of bloatware and useless features
