yes but its still free, of course they are benefiting from it, but this operation is generally pretty expensive to run, maintain and improve, you cant blame someone for wanting to make money from their own product

opensource is fine, but none of the opensource alternatives are of the chatgpt strength, even when unfiltered
i get what you are saying, but its simple fact that profit always drives every industry, if it wasnt for profit, something like this would probably be nonexistent

I was very surprised to hear the news. He has been the face of the company and AI for a while now. I feel like he must’ve done something to piss of Microsoft and the board had no choice but to let him go

I would probably be fine with paying a bit for a dedicated code model that doesn't have all the idiosyncracies current models have when producing code. AOI would be better but im flexible. I good coder AI is worth more than what ever they would charge probably.
 
If they get rid of their free version and increase the price, it's going to create more demand for alternatives. They are no longer "super innovative" almost every major tech company around the world is launching an LLM, and hobbyists are also making them.

Makes A LOT of sense considering:

  1. OpenAI comically runs on Azure credits, so you might as well just work with the largest publicly available supercomputer array in the world.1700471630695.png
  2. Microsoft's e/acc vision is what pushed OpenAI to even release GPT-4 as quickly as they did.
  3. Sama finally has access to all of the funding he'd ever want
  4. As far as AI development goes, this is a win for everybody except OpenAI, which isn't that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.
 
So apparently, One of the board members (The one that owns Quora and P0e) got salty when Sam launched the same idea as P0e with the GPT store... So he formed a plan to get rid of him... Seems likely as a theory and at the same time how could they allow someone on the board to run competition while on the board? I've used P0e a few times and immediately understood that they were done when GPTs were announced. I still don't understand how anybody on the board did not realize that this guy was running the competition all thos time. P0e uses Claude ECT.

Omg this is crazier than love and hip-hop drama . There's an update. Not only did that board member created competition while on the board using Claude ai ect, not only that board member try to rally a coup to overthrow Sam from the team, he also swayed the board to merge with the other competition (Claude ai) that he used on his P0e platform along openai .. this is crazy

True that it only takes the talent plus the incredible servers and data centers that Microsoft provided to get them where they are. However, open source is needed as open source companies such as openAI are literally on the edge of the blade of this type of technology.. they work more efficiently and quicker than closed source so in a sense Microsoft needs an open source company to spare head all the development as they occur and then when perfected they can cherry pick and refined under their ai departments. Notice how Google is a few months behind. Mostly to the fact they are watering down their version but as closed source it takes more time to implement the other open sources white papers that are freely available.
