Google indexing API for normal sites and blogs

Some of you may be aware of Google Indexing API through which you can index your website very quickly (sometime within minutes) BUT the catch! Following is what Google says:

Currently, the Indexing API can only be used to crawl pages with either JobPosting or BroadcastEvent embedded in a VideoObject

So, basically it is not for your regular blogs and articles. But people have been using it for blogs and it works!!
My question is, does it have any adverse effect on ranking etc.? Because I read that some people were talking about it as their site ranking went down but it just a few cases and may have nothing to do with indexing API. On the other hand almost everyone who uses it is very happy with it.

What are your thoughts on it?

I used it for my blogs in the past, the posts were getting indexed in minutes or hours and never had any negative impact from it.
But i used it only for 2 blogs so can't say for sure

I heard that it works good at starting but later on your post will not get indexed. So, I haven't tried it.

It can work to get pages in the index initially, but you'll find that unless these pages have sufficient internal and/or external links to back them up, they'll start dropping out.

On the other hand almost everyone who uses it is very happy with it.

Yeah I am skeptical about it. But I think some people who lost ranking was due to Google core update which happens all the time. Case in point is this which happened after 45 days which I am pretty sure is due to some Google core update.

Google Index Api help us for lots of website, We are still using Google Index Api.

This could have stemmed from an abuse of the api?
