Lately, I have noticed that some new and old websites have seen a spike in traffic by using a dubious method to increase their visibility on SERP.

For example, I came across a technology website that looked decent and had mostly tech-related content. However, when I dug deeper into their keyword traffic source, I found out that most of their traffic came from EtR adult keywords. This is a sneaky way to double their outreach fee.

I would be wary of such websites.

One simple way to mitigate this issue is to use your preferred audit tool and check their target keywords and pages to see what is driving the most traffic to their website.

Yeah it's a thing.

They also use some Indian entertainment news keywords that have a huge spike in traffic and are easy to rank. Mostly gibberish.

So they hide that gibberish article somewhere in their site and when you use Ahrefs or SEMrush you think that Wow this is a nice website to get a link from and there you have it.

They fake the DR by using Google and other redirects to manipulate the metrics of the analytics tools just to sell links and guest posts to gullible users who most often don't look further than the main page of Ahrefs etc.

Good thread. I'd say, you should either ignore their outreaching attempts, or use a proper auditing tool, there are many free ones available.

I've noticed this too. It's been happening for quite a while.

That's why the best way to choose a website is through the SERPs. You choose from sites that are actually ranking for keywords in the niche/industry.

If you blindly focus just the numbers you'd be misled.

Agreed, especially if running on a batch analysis tool. It takes this further step to further detect the bad eggs.

You're right, but nothing good comes super easy. You either have to use really good pitch or have walk-arounds like approaching sites that aren't very obvious competitors even though you're in same niche or very related niche.

Thats like almost all guest post resellers are doing it.
They may me not targeting adult keywords but totally spammy keywords like

The reason for this is almost every buyer want 30+ DA.
So i guess problem will solve by itself, once enough buyers get burn by these resellers, they may educate themself...

Yeah, the Semantic SEO guy ranks loads of it.
