Reddit communities go dark for 48 hours

They want to monetize people who ban any kind of promotional content and hate ads. They brought this upon themselves. They created a system where any kind of promotion (even ones random content posts) are hated on.

Exactly! Reddit promoted this type of community, where every commercial aspect is frowned upon. Sell anything? You are suspicious and will get banned. Want to recommend a product? A service? Banned, flagged, shadowbanned. They started it, now they have to deal with it.

Good luck replacing 3k mods that do the work for free, and that is with third party apps to make life easier.

It sucks but it was inevitable anyway. You can enjoy free pizzas everyday but the moment you start to pack those in shiny boxes made by you and sell for money, the pizza man will obviously be pissed. You’d be making very popular boxes and would’ve spent hundreds or thousands of hours on it but still. Musk started this trend with twitter, surely Reddit won’t be the last to jump into that bandwagon.

Yeah it kinda sucks. But nowadays it's either that or quora, which is way worse.

And if you want forums you pretty much mostly find forum threads from 2008 and 2018 and stuff like that. Give it a few more years, many of those old and dead forums are gonna shut down probably, and then even that forum content will be gone.

That sucks.

And even reddit, the last 48 hours i was unable to open half the things I tried, because it's a private community or some bullshit. Whatever's going on with reddit at the moment and them shutting their API down to apps or whatever.

The internet used to be so much better.

using a 56k modem on dial up and it taking 10 mins to

Yeah, downloading a movie for 3 days if you're lucky on kazaa or morpheus or whatever it was.

But it's a bit later on that it was best for me, at least in terms of forums and user-generated content. You could find anything online!

Agree. Reddit is probably the best source to get an actual and fresh information so far. I've been using niche forums for a while, but all of them are dying some day.

I think that Reddit will actively and successfully fight such rogues. They have very little chance of success in the future. Reddit's moderation has always been a joy.

Sounds like way more people on the side of the Reddit CEO on this.

Reddit is planning on having an IPO later this year so they are getting greedy to line their pockets and willing to stomp all over reddit users and volunteers to get it. No surprise for companies but I for one find it hilarious that they got too greedy and are taking a big hit for it. Trying to squeeze and bully volunteers never has worked and never will. What it will do is push those online communities to relocate.

What is going to happen is the CEO is going to resign and they are going to reverse their decision and beg everyone to come back. They will claim it was for the benefit of the volunteers or some bs except I'm pretty sure it's already too late with this latest maneuver they took.

Funny enough I went to look up the origins of the "beatings will continue until morale improves" except the answer was on a reddit page that has gone private

I dont understand. Apollo APP has premium plans. They use the Reddit API for free and when Reddit says that they will start to ask money for using their API,, Apollo gets angry... ! I am sorry, but in this situation Reddit is OK.

One thing that Reddit should do is allow moderators to charge a monthly fee for using/posting/X benefits in subreddits. Like when someone "joins" a Youtuber and chooses a plan. Reddit could get a percent of that money and moderators will obtain some money
