Subreddit mass bans

Recently Reddit has been cracking down on loads of subreddits, especially adult ones, what's behind this?

Some people in the anti-spam team considered this to be appropriate and updated some algorithm.

Basically, months of work goes off to drain... or, what you don't control you don't really own.

Lost one 23k adult sub the past days.

I saw a post on reddit in which a person mentioned that reddit is being heavily targetted for adult content by authorities for that reason either reddit will completely remove nsfw content and will die like Tumblr or will change its policy towards adult content which will make it harder for user to post content.

They are going to launch an IPO. And institutional investors don't really like social media sites with a ton of porn. That's what happened to Imgur even tho they just raised some vc funds and not an IPO.

I guess reddit is going to pull a Tumblr and ban adult content sometime soon altogether. Recently they announced changes to their api that makes discovery of NSFW communities more difficult with 3rd party tools You can't upload videos in NSFW subs anymore. You can't use Reddit's native image host in them anymore.

Also there's apparently some lobbying by anti-porn people too

Exactly. Reddit is hungry for cash, as their monetization solutions are not working (reddit ads are not performing as expected).

Contrary to public opinion, it's not that investors are afraid of seeing women naked. It's the credit card companies which ask for larger commisions when working with porn websites. Some credit card companies downright refuse porn websites. The reason, which is kinda true, is that porn attracts a lot of spam and illegal activity.

Reddit just tries to cut its potential losses. What's more, reddit has really been a bad boy recently, and marketers will find it way harder to make money on the platform. The new anti spam bots and tools are really good, and will get better.

Why exactly do you think you lost it? What were you doing against the TOS? Usually a subreddit doesn't get banned just because it's NSFW.
