Wikipedia backlinks, trash or treasure?

I did the exact thing for a broken link on a decently warmed up account.
Mods removed the link after 2 days.
Couple of points:
Changing a broken link for a new link is completely different to finding a 'citation needed' tag and adding your relevant link there. A change of url is more likely to set off alarm bells, as Wikipedia's usual line with broken links is that they will link to an archived version of that page instead.
Always check the regularity of edits to a page before making your own. Some of the man-baby editors are really precious about 'their' pages, no matter how obscure.
