Hello people of BHW,

By chance, I bought a domain for $7 the other day. But I don't know if I did well. How can I evaluate this domain? Or is it just a garbage domain name?

I trust BHW creativity.

Not to burst your bubble but I would have to be given this domain name for free to accept it, not to say it has zero potential but the longness and missing letter is not good eye-appeal, it was only seven dollars though so throw up a site with a blog and quality content and see what happens.

OW, it looks really weird.

To me, anything that starts with "iam" is bad.
Hey man does this have anything to do with seo?

it has no SEO value, but whether or not it's garbage depends on your opinion :)

Personally, I don't think it's really THAT bad of a name, so I wouldn't mind owning this domain (especially for $7). But the problem - like I said - is that it has no SEO value, so you can't rely on selling this domain to SEO-savvy people. You can sell it to someone who loves this name, though... if you want to sell it, that is.

If selling it is not your goal then - since you already have it - go ahead and use it. Unless it's penalized by google you can rank it just fine with the right SEO done to it. And if it is penalized by google... well, either try to lift the penalty (if it's worth the trouble), or use the domain with other sources of traffic. The great thing about google disappearing (when / if this happens in the next 10-20 years) is that other traffic sources will replace it and those traffic sources will NOT command people which domains to like and which ones not to like.

In other words, when / if google falls, we will all be finally free :)

But in the meantime, you can use the domain with other traffic sources like social media, UGC sites, forums, even with paid ads you can probably make cool stuff with such a weird name (I think the domain fits perfectly for a site about coding / tutorials on how to become a webmaster like how sites and domains work, what cpanel is and how to make use of the various functions of the cpanel, stuff like this...)

Edit: I'm not sure if it's illegal to share a domain name, so apologies.
it's not illegal to share it here, but it's bad for you because there are millions of people on the forum, including google employees, and if you make your site(s) public for everyone to see and you brag about how you're building links to those sites then it's possible that one of the snitches working at google completely and irremediably de-indexes your cool site from google and you'll lose your business if those sites were your entire income.

And not only this, but evil people (whichi are aplenty, sadly) might steal the niche / keywords of your domain, they might negative SEO it if they feel that you're posing a threat to their websites, they might even repeatedly click on your Adsense ads (if you do use Adsense on your site) in order to get you intro trouble (why they would do this to strangers I don't know, but the evil knows many shapes and forms, and it's always relentless in doing evil things), or they might hack your site for whatever reasons...

The moral of the story is: don't make your sites public if you don't have to, such as: selling them in the marketplace for example, in that case you do have to show the sites to your potential buyers, but other than this there's no need to show what cool new toys you've got :)

First of all, thanks for your detailed answer. I will definitely take your warnings and advice into consideration. Thanks a lot

Now I will have a hard time to fall asleep...

To the OP, although you got pretty solid advice in previous posts, came to say I like the domain name, so this depends on everyone taste.

Success is about how creative you'll be with putting it to work in a meaningful way, more than the domain name itself.

Domain names have proven to be almost meaningless.

You're going to need to get traffic to your site and the name literally doesn't matter.

I have spent millions on ads where the visible domain link has had no impact on CTR.

Nissan is a great example... they know domains are worthless so they refuse to buy Nissan.com ... Tesla also held out for a long time before biting the bullet when 10mm became a rounding error to them. It's a vanity purchase not economical.

There are very rare exceptions. Like hijacking traffic from big sites with very close common spelling error type sites. Those actually make a lot more than people realize.

Isn't that sort of a 90's name? Do you know how many people were hired contract or direct whose current job title is "webmaster"?

I will not lie. A bit of an old title

Lol Nissan motors lost the case accept the fact

The owner of the nissan.com didn't accept the offer by Nissan motors, Nissan motors filed a trademark infringement

How can I evaluate this domain?
I just checked the way back machine history for this domain and found that this domain was active since 2002. So that is a pretty good age. I just wonder why nobody built a proper site on this domain? There are no records of a good content for this domain.

I think if you put good quality content and build some backlinks then it can gain authority in few months time. You can build a site that shares SEO, SMM and website management related content for webmasters in it. (Or how about building a webmasters forum on it?)

Or is it just a garbage domain name?
Well, not garbage, but it will be interesting to see how this site will perform if you work on it. I see there is still a chance.

Great buddy.

I feel that you should build a webmaster forum on this site. It will be a good decision.
Do let us know what you have decided to do with it.

Wish you all the best for your venture!

I will definitely keep you informed if there are developments for this project.

You could make a blog for webmasters (maybe specified to wordpress or something) and when you have traffic try to monetize it with affiliate programs (hosting, themes, plugins..)

So true

I do not know, there are many such websites, it will be very difficult for me to compete with them. But I added it to my list. Thanks for advice.
