You haven't said what you've done so far.

Of course you need to submit it to the Google Local Business Center. Then optimize it.

Sorry brain fart and my brain skipped the word local when I responded lol. Really need to slow down with the good weed

However, when you go to Add a new business in google local which I assume you mean by adding a listing. Where it asks for website it wouldn't suprise me if they rank these listings by the website related to them where backlinks might still play a factor.

Of course I'm not Google and don't know for sure but maybe the PR and backlinks of the webpage you use for your listing may play a part.

you have to build up your citations and reviews... also your website hast to be optimised for the keyword you are going for "football-boots-for-one-legged-cats.com" that will give you a nice boost
