Windows Systems Settings - Proxy Settings - Are there leaks?

Hello,

I am wondering if the windows 10 proxy settings in the win10 system settings are a good way to run proxies on my personal computer. Or will certain applications still be able to see my real IP?

I guess what I'm asking is if there are leaks in the win10 proxy settings. Do I need to use a third party software to run proxies on my computer without the risk of leaks? Proxifier, for example.

For instance, if I am downloading something on say, the nexusmods application, would they or a similar program be able to see my real IP?

Depending on the level of access that certain application has. Typically though, you should be fine. You're gonna want to use anti-detection browsers on top of a proxy to prevent, say, websites and the like from fingerprinting your connection. Using third-party software to apply your proxies depends on your preference and use-case, really. Windows settings work well enough, otherwise. Nexusmods shouldn't be able to identify your actual IP if you applied the proxy right, though keep in mind that IPs are only one way a website or online service can determine our connection, etc.

If you are concerned about privacy, you may want to consider using a third-party proxy software, such as Proxifier. Proxifier can be configured to intercept all traffic from your computer, including from torrent clients, so that your real IP address is never exposed.

ive used proxys on win 7/10/11 never had an issue
but your mileage may vary depending on your usage

I'm not aware of the current status of their integrated proxy settings, so I can't say for sure.
There have been numerous reports in recent years where it has indeed leaked IPs. That combined with the fact that it's Microsoft's system (awful security features), I would strongly advise you to find better alternatives.
