Why is Facebook outranking me in SERPS?

So I am doing work in a local real estate site in Asia.
We were doing pretty well, however, all of a sudden there was a drop in our rankings in January. Upon analysis, we found out that Facebook has been taking over the Pos 1 in SERPS on plenty of the keywords that we were targeting, based on reports from AWR. We did some manual checks as well and have identified the same thing. Most of the pages that were ranking for Facebook were Groups and Marketplace listings.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? If yes, how were you able to overcome it?

PS: From last year, Facebook was not a threat, they ranked relatively low in market shares. However, in January, they suddenly sprouted out of nowhere.

Because they have the authority. You can build more links to take their position.
Thanks for the reply, but we have relatively good authority as well. We are in the high 70's. And from the last 2 years Facebook has not outranked us on most of the keywords. They just came out of nowhere on January 2023 and started dominating us especially on local transactional keywords

You think you have higher authority than Facebook?

it looks like one of google's endless tests / updates, we can't know for sure until we notice a trend of more FB posts spring up in the SERPs.

Or, maybe someone decided to SEO their FB page and they've built links to it LOL. That'd be hilarious :)

Be it fb or any other website doesn't mean that if you are on top you will always be there.

You will have to dig deeper comparing various factors of your pages and the pages outranking you.

Also consider that topical authority and EEAT in recent years have become more important factors.

Fair point, but as far as I remember authority isn't everything right?

What links are ranking now above your position?
It's just Facebook,,,and only Facebook

That's actually something that I'm thinking right now, but not sure. Now I know at least I'm not the only one that's thinking about that possibility.

LOL, on building links for their FB page

To be honest, "topical authority" might be somewhat new to me. I will check it out

yeah, that's not too common... Just plop that URL into a SEO tool and see what mysteries unfold :)

Can you give an example on what you mean by local transactional keywords ?

What kind of content do you have on your page?

You have to understand that Facebook has a solid domain authority.

So even if they come up with an obscure group or a marketplace listing, given how heavy Facebook's domain authority is, you are always going to be at a compatitive disadvantage.

You can fight back by featuring higher quality content, more comprehensive content, and of course, up-to-date content.

This is because they have so high authority. They are like top 3 websites visited all over the world.

You can beat them with SEO. Add more backlinks and finally you will start appearing over them.
