Hi all, well i was always using shared hosting in hostgator, but finally i decided to setup my own server because after xmas ill get 1gbps internet at home, and i have hp z800 with 2 cpus and 48gb ECC ram,

1. will 1gbps internet will be enough for 10000 visits per day? worldwide.
2. installed Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and cyberpanel, so far so good, everything seems to be working perfectly on localhost. but since i am nood at linux and server stuff, what shuld i install more to make everything better?
3. what you guys think about cyberpanel,aapanel,and cloudpanel ?

4. what are the advantages and disadvantages of having powerful 1gbps server at home? instead of buying hostgator vds?

What kind of websites are you planning to host on this server?
Unless you're hosting a movie streaming or heavy websites that would need plenty of resources, you really don't need such a server,
A Contabo VPS s, $5 droplet or similar VPS could easily handle 10-50k daily visits for an informational website

mainly WordPress sites, with woo commerce
anyway why to pay 5$, if you have 1gbps internet for almost same amount and own server

These $5 would only go to the electricity bill, if not more,
Not to mention the extra funds to get 1gbps connection, you'll be paying so much more just for a small website,
It could be worth it when taking things at a scale, but not really for your current case,

Btw, I use aapanel since years and I found it the easiest, most stable with all the necessary features to get things done

If you don't stream videos, 1gbps will be more than enough for handling 1000 current users

If you get 10,000 hits a day I would not host from home. You do know your computer will have to be on 24/7 and if you shut it off your site will go offline.

This is a very bad idea, I´m pretty sure your ISP of your home connection has something about it being against it´s terms and eventually will close your connection down. In that case your mom will withdraw your weekly allowance.

This was the comment I was waiting for, I've thought about this before and wondered how my ISP would react.

Plus, it's too much hassle. Ensuring an uninterrupted power supply and internet connection is a pain in the ass. But if the OP still wants to do it himself, who are we to stop him?

sending emails from a home server will be difficult. your home IP almost certainly has a zero, or negative reputation, to talk to an established mail server such as yahoo or gmail.

Geeks use to do this during late 1990 ies and early 2000 nds but this quickly went out of trend due to host of issues.
But if you wanna geek out and try it out, i say do it by all means.

That's exactly why I dropped doing this few years back.

Had a 1 Kw UPS to keep the server up for about 60 minutes during power outages, but, the problem was the ISP didn't had their routers backed up, so when a general blackout happened my server would be up without an Internet connection.

Although I still like the idea of having hosting under your control. Wish that can happen with domains too, and probably is already here with blockchain-based domains like unstoppable but far for being mainstream yet.

Yeah, we oldies did this in the mid 90th and got a lot of shit by the ISP´s for it, don´t make the same misstake. Hosting today is cheap compare to back then.

Nothing is free in the world lol
If you ain't paying, you are the payment.
imagine if a vistor dcides to ddos your site
your whole net goes down constantly and what not.
Your ISP will prob get pissed af at you, and blacklist you and you probably might even be out of internet.
Might even be fined too depending on TOS

You ain´t gonna get that for free soon when your ISP is closing down your connection after you broke their terms. And your mom will be really pissed at you.
